Why?

This is a forum on discussing and debating everything, not just god and his existence. But, this seems to be the most used topic, if not the only one. Let me ask you all this, do you all really think an answer to this is going to be found on some forum on a fan site for a simple video-game? What is the purpose of the argument if we just go back and forth between recycled arguments that go nowhere. What have we to gain from the senseless arguments? That I'm right and you are wrong? That is an awfully arrogant ideal that I am afraid that all of us have in this forum. Why not live and let live? why not talk about something else? My question is, why do we argue about this, why do we have to, and what do we have to gain from the fruitless arguments?

If you provide another topic that is interesting enough, I'll be happy to argue it as well.


The religious topic just happens to be very popular, probably on account of its extreme relevance to just about everyone.


EDIT: Something else just occurred to me: Religion is also a very broad and far-reaching topic; it is a dominant topic. For example, any internet discussion about morality of any sort is very likely to devolve into a debate about god and religion in general, simply because religion has such a stranglehold on moral philosophy.
