    Default SS Extremely Unstable

    Hello,

    I've had constant CTD's in SS lately. In adittion to the CTD described here...
    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=174894
    ...I have also had numerous other CTD's. The most frequent and annoying ones come at the end of battles when I kill the enemy general. Oftentimes I kill him and my game CTD's immediantly after the narrator voice says, "The foolish enemy general has thrown his life away!" etc. I also get CTD's fairly frequently on the menu.

    I have tried reinstalling and I still have these problems. I am on the verge of uninstalling SS. Does anyone else have these bugs or know how they can be fixed?

    That was reported so many times before!

    That was the LEAST problematic of the bugs. Why choose to respond to that alone?

    Cuz I can't help you with the rest! I never had those ctd's(except faction menu ctd, which is a well known unsolvable bug) you described, so it must be a bad installation!

    All I can say is try installing again and hope for the best!

    Lol, OK. I'll try re-installing one last, fourth time.

    I have had the same CTD's in battles after killing the enemy general the game freezes.But not just at the end of a battle but at anytime you kill the enemy general.Had no problems with the menue yet though.Just the kill general bug.

    I'm suffering from the CTD when killing the enemy general as well, and it is usually when killing the general with an arrow. Only thing I can think of is to attack the general with something other than arrows, lol.

    Can people please say which mods they have in this thread?

    (I completed both a late era and early era campaign without this problem revealing itself. Indeed without any CTDs - only ones I've had were when I messed around with files etc.)

    Also which factions are involved in the battles?

    At first glance it loks like a problem with the cut scene which usually accompanies the death of a general. (Is it General's Bodyguards or captains or both?)

    Can you post your system log files (not the entire file but the last few lines)

    as per shenryyr's instructions here:
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    1. It's 100% likely that someone in this very forum has already encountered your problem and people have discussed it to no end. Please browse and search the forum before you post a new bug.
    2. At the beginning of your thread, say the version of kingdoms you have and list the minimods(if any) you have installed with SS6.0 or modifications you have done to the files.
    3. If your issue is a CTD, find your system.log file and post the last 10 lines or so as a spoiler (use [ spoiler ] system.log [ /spoiler ] without the spaces) to save on space.
    4. If your system.log doesn't reveal anything obvious, try opening your config file:

    * C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg
    * and change the line reading:
    * level = * error
    * to read:
    * ;level = * error
    * then repost your system.log (remember to use spoiler tags because it will be longer!)

    As I've posted elsewhere, the killing generals "bug" could be related to the cut scenes playing. As there's usually a lot going on at that point from a systems resource perspective, the sudden interruption of changing over to the cut scene and then trying to change back could be problematic. I've never had that particular CTD since disabling cut scenes.

    In your mods\Stainless_Steel_6\Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg, under heading [game] add:

    event_cutscenes = 0

    BTW, I spend far too much time playing this mod. I will sometimes go 8 to 10 hours a gaming session on weekends and I hardly ever experience crashes (maybe once a week tops). I'd say this mod is anything but "extremely unstable".

    That should solve that problem--thanks everyone. However my biggest problem remains the CTD which occured in the middle of an exciting campaign:

    I was contemplating shooting my computer.

    Just replied to your thread there. Nothing definitive, but a couple of things to test.

    I recommend bludgeoning. Shooting is over too fast and doesn't provide sufficient stress relief.

    Do you have 100% clean installs? i suggest reinstalling medieval 2 total and kingdoms if you can, and then totally remove all files related to it . Altenatively uninstall and then do a search for all remaining SS folders.

    I've had the same ctd's as others have reported, menu, custom battles to campaign mode...You know, you might want to carefully dissect the mod and it's issues before releasing it. To be honest I've downloaded it twice thought it was the most fun and challenging. Then I would crash once, again, again etc... Just slow down on the update so you won't have more people biting your head off...Cheers Mate!!
