    Default how to make all units recruitable for all factions, but not showing up on recruitment roster (see inside plz)

    hi,

    i wondered if it would be possible to make all units available for all factions.
    BUT that only the factions it's own units can be recruited.
    basicly, how to make it that when you bribe an enemy army, the units join your faction and don't disband
    i think the above idea is the only one to make that possible?

    Dont know if it will work but in theory if you change ownership of the unit in the EDU.txt file, the hard bit would be changing the EDB.txt to ensure that your faction can only recruit its own units. You'd have to make a unique barracks, stables etc for your faction.

    If you just add all the factions in the EDU owner line and have appropriate texture lines for all factions in the DMB, it's ok. You can leave recruitment line sin EDB as they are if u only want to be able to bribe other units and not train them yourself. Plus, there's a limit on the units u can have avaialbale at a settlement at any given time, and adding all units there would cause your game to crash.

    Example: This is the descr_model_battle entry of barb_archer model, which is used by the Dacian, Scythian and Rebel "Archer Warband" units.

    So, you see there is a texture line for each faction that can use this model for one of its units. So, if you also wanted the Gauls to use the same model (and assumed that the unit would use the scythian texture for example) you'd have to add the following line:

    Now, in order to save yourself some trouble, just backup your EDU, replace "ownership______" with "ownership______all_;", where a "_" indicates a space character. If "all" doesn't work, use the names of all cultures or all factions instead.

    Before you do anything, back up EDU and DMB.

    Just checked the post and the last time stichmaster1 was active was 2005 as think that its a dead end. Also did you read in the post that it doesnt work with v1.5. Good thing is though that if you do it yourself you can release it as your own patch/mod

    is that descr_model_battle and export_descr_unit??? ok
    so in the DMB i just copy the line, and replace the faction?

    You should be using the internal faction names (ie greek_cities)
    If you intend to give all units to all faction, well, that includes also the models for captains and standard bearers, so you need to do the same there. No need to do it for*generals* though, as no unit is coded to have a general with it.

    only the texture line must be copied right? like in my post #10?

    and what about model_sprite?

    so i think it would be better if like some did the cav, others the first half of inf and a third one nex half or something.......

    Thought of a work- around


    Add all the units to all the rosters, but make an impossible requirement for recruiting units if the faction shouldn't have them.

    That isn't the issue, not changing EDB keeps recruitment the same. The problem is every model needs a texture for every faction. This is 21 factions times a maximum of 255 models ~5000 lines of code.

    wow, guys, i just thought of something:

    what if all battles were auto-resolved?
    do i still have to edit both files then?

    or what happens then?

    Doesnt that kind of defeat the object! Whats the point in having exotic units if you cant see them in battle. Rather than Try to convert all the units to all factions why not try to do things in small steps

    Either :

    1) Pick a key unit from each faction and make it avalible to all factions. ie Carthaginian Elephants or Greek Spartans.

    or

    2) Make all units avalible to just one faction to start with, the one you play with most. You can always add to it later.

    it's for my hotseat game "Augustus!" , where all factions are controlled by humans.
    Therefore, all battles are auto-resolved

    so i could implent this, and finish it later, for people who want the fights

    but plz tell me, what must i do if i only atoresolve?
