How often have you bribed a neat foreign general only to have his children gain random names at birth?? Have you ever wanted to rule the Holy Roman Empire with a royal line of Tudors?? I for one - wanted to do these things...
So I did.
Whats the mod do?
Well - it rids the game of that horrible annoyance of random names etc. If you bribe a Tudor to join your Holy Roman Empire, and he somehow manages to reach the throne - his children will continue to bear the Tudor name. His sons and daughters will both come of age as Mr and Ms Tudor.
But what about your average Thomas Goushill and Jean de Jourdain?
Well - they're not of royal lineage are they? Other mods so far have only tracked royal lines from the beginning, what about this one? This mod tracks any name - no matter who they're descended from. If Mr Goushill comes to the throne - his line will be tracked, and you will know where your general's heritage lies.
How does it work - are there any scary side-effects?
Well - it actually works via TRAITS. After figuring how to give names via traits, I found I no longer needed the surnames from the NAMES files. So, side-effects do include agents such as diplomats, priests etc, bearing only a first name.
Does all this mean less names than before?
Well - yes and no. The first release will include 100+ names for every Vanilla faction. More names will be added in expansions.
Tell us more about these expansions...
Well - after the initial release, more names will be released in expansions. And these names wont be gained the same way as those of the original release. I plan to have these names gained via region. For instance - during the Scottish Wars of Independence, the English forced the Scottish lords to swear fealty to them. So in a way, Scottish families would all be part of the large English aristocracy. So - can we do this in MTW2? Well, currently - no. But I plan to make it possible. When I conquer France for instance - I want the French lords to pay homage, maybe even join my family tree. And this will be possible. Even after a faction is destroyed, it will live on as the local lords continue to pay homage, despite the conquest of their country.
How does the AI deal with it?
Well - surprisingly good. New blood does get introduced into foreign families. When the faction is at war(and losing), it's general's are continuously dying and there is occasionally fewer new names. Sometimes the AI gains generals with no surname at all - so kill them quick.
How far has the mod progressed?
So far, 40-50+ names have been done for Scotland, England, France, Spain, Portugal, HRE, Denmark, Milan and Venice (plus Ireland, Aragon and Norway for Stainless Steel).
How can we help?
If anyone is interested in helping add names for factions (don't worry - it's actually a very simple process) - it would be a massive help, seeing as soon I'll only have 6-7 hours a week to work on it.
I'm also after 2-3 testers. The testers will get to test the mod out as it develops, at the moment - only with the mentioned factions. Sorry to say, but Stainless Steel 6.1 is a MUST! as this is what the mod has been developed on.
Why should be believe what you say? We want evidence!
Screenies anyone?:hmmm:
