    Icon1 In The Blood

How often have you bribed a neat foreign general only to have his children gain random names at birth?? Have you ever wanted to rule the Holy Roman Empire with a royal line of Tudors?? I for one - wanted to do these things...

    So I did.

    Whats the mod do?

Well - it rids the game of that horrible annoyance of random names etc. If you bribe a Tudor to join your Holy Roman Empire, and he somehow manages to reach the throne - his children will continue to bear the Tudor name. His sons and daughters will both come of age as Mr and Ms Tudor.

But what about your average Thomas Goushill and Jean de Jourdain?

Well - they're not of royal lineage are they? Other mods so far have only tracked royal lines from the beginning, what about this one? This mod tracks any name - no matter who they're descended from. If Mr Goushill comes to the throne - his line will be tracked, and you will know where your general's heritage lies.

How does it work - are there any scary side-effects?

Well - it actually works via TRAITS. After figuring how to give names via traits, I found I no longer needed the surnames from the NAMES files. So, side-effects do include agents such as diplomats, priests etc, bearing only a first name.

Does all this mean less names than before?

Well - yes and no. The first release will include 100+ names for every Vanilla faction. More names will be added in expansions.

Tell us more about these expansions...

Well - after the initial release, more names will be released in expansions. And these names wont be gained the same way as those of the original release. I plan to have these names gained via region. For instance - during the Scottish Wars of Independence, the English forced the Scottish lords to swear fealty to them. So in a way, Scottish families would all be part of the large English aristocracy. So - can we do this in MTW2? Well, currently - no. But I plan to make it possible. When I conquer France for instance - I want the French lords to pay homage, maybe even join my family tree. And this will be possible. Even after a faction is destroyed, it will live on as the local lords continue to pay homage, despite the conquest of their country.

How does the AI deal with it?
Well - surprisingly good. New blood does get introduced into foreign families. When the faction is at war(and losing), it's general's are continuously dying and there is occasionally fewer new names. Sometimes the AI gains generals with no surname at all - so kill them quick.

How far has the mod progressed?

So far, 40-50+ names have been done for Scotland, England, France, Spain, Portugal, HRE, Denmark, Milan and Venice (plus Ireland, Aragon and Norway for Stainless Steel).

    How can we help?
If anyone is interested in helping add names for factions (don't worry - it's actually a very simple process) - it would be a massive help, seeing as soon I'll only have 6-7 hours a week to work on it.

I'm also after 2-3 testers. The testers will get to test the mod out as it develops, at the moment - only with the mentioned factions. Sorry to say, but Stainless Steel 6.1 is a MUST! as this is what the mod has been developed on.

Why should be believe what you say? We want evidence!

    Screenies anyone?:hmmm:

    Candidate for adoption

Starting general - married into royal family

My German princess seduced this fellow from the French

Member of the Danish royal family (Vemundsen) - was originally a German

    Betrothed

    [B]
His son, look - same name, French-born father, German-born son

An AI princess - look, she has a surname (gained via the mod)

Awesome idea!!! Did you make it so that instead of getting Henry "the Conqueror" or something, you get Henry "Tudor" instead from the traits?

@ Hounf of Culan - your spot on

    Update:

First batch of Danish names are finished.

    Still looking for testers!

    Screenshots

This guy was originally a German - obvious by his name. I'm guessing the French bribed him and married him into the family. Due to the fact that I was killing of most of the old Capet line, he ended up next in line to the French throne

Here we have one of his sons. As you can see he has a German name despite his froginess

When I moused over this princess, I expected another Capet - I was quite surprised when I saw a German name So I made sure she got betrothed to my prince (next pic)

And here he is, my Danish next-in-line with a French-German wife.

    More to come soon!

    Update:

    Heres the plan:

    Initial Release:

    Work in progress

    - Revised system this afternoon - now, relations are tracked via females (didn't do this before). So now, if there was a Capet three generations back on someone's mothers side - you'll know about it.

    - Due to revisions, starting from scratch. Working through factions alphabetically. Currently - 50 surnames for Byzantium are done.

    - Should start on next faction by the end of the week.

    Note:
Starting bloodlines, eg. Komnenos and Capet will be the one and only time in game they are available. Once the line is extinct it can't be revived.

    Also:
Any help would be greatly appreciated. NO modding experience is required to help out. All thats needed is someone with a computer.

Any suggestions would also be greatly appreciated

    Thanks, tzar

Great work. Got a good lineage for the Tzar (lame joke, I know)?

This will be a great add-on for the RPG oriented fans of M2TW.

Are you working together with Blood, Broads an Bastards? I think you would have the best lineage-mod (or whatever you wanna call it) for M2TW period.

Fun things to do in Total war:

    3. Bombard peasants with mangonels
    4. Burn peasants with fire-arrows

    Update, update, update!

Okay - i have 130 english names (norman/english mix). It is these you get to see the preview of

Seeing as most will have seen screens of generals with names, how bout some agents?

Next up, two generals (for old times sake)

Now...we have some problems. Due to the nature of these traits/names, there appears to be cases of 'double or nothing'.

We have agents/generals with no name - which in my opinion is preferable to doubles - which is two traits occuring.

DOUBLES - this is when a general/agent gains more than one base Name-trait (eg. Of Dunmore Blood AND Of Canmore Blood) - see Gerard Walgrave below. These traits produce the epithet (surname) of the agent/general.

For those who now the export_descr_traits, the chance of gaining a name has a 1% chance - using ther conditions i've made it almost nill that a general will get a double. They can still get nothing however.

Agents - i'm still fiddling with the chances for their names.

Here is an extreme case of 'doubling':

    QUESTION FOR THE PEOPLE?

1 - Would, you - as the players, be more accepting of doubling (every character has a surname, albeit the traits are a bit messed) or nothing (most characters get names, soem dont (historically, not every person had a surname)?

2 - Which faction do you want to see next (except the Papal States - i'm talking about playable factions here)?

    Please post your opinions.

    Still looking for help also
