    Default U.S. Politics: Total War!!

    US Politics: Total War

Okay—with an important election coming up this year, I thought it would be a good idea to propose a US Politics mod. The idea is to provide a humorous take on American partisan politics, and the constant fighting going on between Republicans and Democrats.

The idea would be to simulate a political campaign, so the map would be the continental USA plus Alaska and Hawaii. In order to win the “election”, you would have to take over a majority of the “states”, which would be the regions. The factions would be

    Republican Party
    Democratic Party
Independents (they could be the rebels J)

The faction leaders would be the 2008 Presidential nominees. So the Republicans would have John McCain, and the Democrats would have Barack Obama.

    “Generals” could be:
    Senators
    Congressmen
    State governors
    Mayors
    Talk Radio hosts
    Media personalities

“Units” for the Republicans could include
    Oil executives
    NRA members
    Rednecks
    Military veterans

“Units” for the Democrats could include
    College students
    Antiwar protesters
    Hippies
    Hollywood actors and actresses
    Artists

Tell me what you think. Let me say at the outset that I have neither the skill nor the resources to do much modeling or skinning—but I just wanted to post this idea in case anyone who does have those resources is interested in this kind of thing.

sounds good, but why military veterans? would they really be in favour of a more pro-war party that also managed to cut their benefits?

For any who are interested by my FF on occurrences in Rhun and beyond; I have begun a new project (not because the old one is finished, just opening more room for ideas) about one of the minor characters, Rankal. I think in general most veterans are Republicans, but there are some who are Democrats. Probably any of the groups I mentioned could have some members in either party

    ok I'm back.

actually, you got too many generals: just have the FL (chairman of each party), the heir (the nominees), and the senators, reps, and others, they can be the main units, along with the other units.

also, make the democrats control the blue sates, th reps red, and the swinges (Ohio, New jersey, California, etc), no one owns the, but there will be stacks of each in these state, that are equally strong, for perpetual conflict
but, what will their weapons be?, don't tell me bricks, baseball bats, and crowbars...

Right--the Independents (rebels) could have the swing states. States like Massachusetts and Minnesota ought to have VERY strong Democratic garrisons, and states like Kansas, Colorado and Florida ought to have very strong Republican garrisons.

LOL--actually I was thinking they could just use fists, but bricks/bats/etc. would make it more funny

allright: the yellows are expected swing states(yay! homestate is one (Ohio); the reds are republicans, and blues are democrats

there are Alaska and Hawaii, but I dout they matter (too far away in real life). you can instead subdivide the 49 other areas (includiing DC), so as to have 199 areas to fight over.

Great Again, I have no experience in map-making, this was just an idea. But that would work pretty well.

Lets have smaller factions too, like Libertarians and the Green Party.

but where to put them? oh wait! Vermont! (independant party has a hold over 1/2 the representatives in the house. unless they start as a horde faction (libertarians in Texas, and greens elsewhere), in which case this game will run on BI
oh and I found a way of simulatig a proper electoral victory: have each territorry be where 3 votes come from: say if california has 52 votes, then we divide on 3= 17 and 1/3, tha one third shares terrtory with anothre states incomplete electoral unit.
and why 3? the region limit is 199, and we have 535 votes, so we divide 535/3=178 and 1/3 (we can merge that ino one area with nother complete roster, giving the area 4 votes)

Right--but I think the problem is that in real life, when you win a state, you get all of its electoral votes. So dividing it into regions 3 electoral votes each would not fit with that. Is there a way we could do scripting, so that once you take a particular region a certain amount of electoral votes are added, and once a team reaches a certain number, they get an electoral victory that way?

another alternative is to divide on state lines only, but then there would be no way to simulate the electoral collage (in this scenario, California=1 vote, same as rhode island).

however, you can script it so that when a faction takes over a caertain amount of territory, the get a message saying that they won a state
