    Default Home Advantage for armies

    Call this a suggestion-in-development. What would you think about giving units a home advantage bonus? Basically, units would get an advantage when fighting in a region that is owned by the faction. I think this would make conquests a little harder. Its also not terribly unrealistic since defending troops usually knew the lay of the land better than the invading army. Thermopylae anyone?

    Don't know if we can do that, but we are fixing the problem of strange stat_ground values, where Omanis do better in snow or forest. We're fixing that.

    I always thought it was Dubai's indoor skeeing facility that gave them the advantage.
    Now, will this also fix the Ghorid generals, who fear or hate the Danes?

    You're thinking on a battle-scale while I'm thinking on a C-map scale. Imagine an enemy army in your territory. Now, YOU go and attack it to drive it off. That's what I mean. You have no defending advantage.

    You allready get incredible bonus when fighting on walls...
    Drop armies on bridges- these are AI killing mashine battles. 1 italian mercenary (hammer guy) beat off sergeant/armored spearmans on a bridge with oddities 60-800. AI dont fight on bridge, it just tries to get to other side ASAP.

    I don't mean seige. I mean a regular battle.

    Ahiga, its good you're fixing the O-men but can't a script be written that goes something like:

    if Unit X is in Region A
    and Region A belongs to Faction of Unit X
    give bonus

    ?
    Just throwing out ideas...like I said, its a predecessor to a suggestion

    As defender, you already have the advantage of......defending! You choose where the fight takes places, you get hold of the high grounds, you can evade combat so time runs out etc....

    Das Heilige Römische Reich has this feature in it, for the Pagan Obotrites. From the features post;

    -The Obotrites now get a special moral boost in their home provinces as long as they are pagan. You'll most probably have to kill them to the last man to win any battles vs the Obotrites there.

    It made taking out their cities very hard in the early game. DHRR mod has a lot of clever scripting, well worth a peek. I think it quite plausable to give a couple moral points to units fighting to defend their homelands.

    They handled rebel type provinces - Flanders, Northern Italy - very well, making them very hard to hold onto by the AI, and not worth the effort by the player. They did this by spawning rebel armies (with unique triggers), along with garrison scripts.
    This seems to be quite a racist comment. The Guals did a lot more than "wonder around pillaging";
    It's not as if they were a bunch of dirty, stinking, fatherless Huns.

    Yep, morale boost is a good idea.

    I'm also thinking of that the home troops should have more stamina - hence, get tired more slowly since they're used to the terrain.

    Glad the idea is fleshing out.

    Did they have that in ROME??
    It would be realistic to have Fatimids fighting much harder when fighting the enemies in Egypt and middle east. And other factions too.
