Can't fight battles

Just installed Medieval II Total War Kingdoms. Playing the American campaign. I got into a battle and wanted to fight it myself, but after the load bar finished loading the screen just became black and cound't do anything, but alt f4 to get out of the game. I loaded the game back up and tried it again and same results, loaded it a third time and did a quick battle, which the game let me fight. It just seems like it won't let me fight campaign battles, any help is most appreciated.

Normally it is a case of some of the extraction files not having been deleted, (if they have been extracted), but this is unusual. HMMMMM... Would it be possible for you to upload the save game and then post a link so that I could have a look - this procedure will determine whether it is your game files or the game save, (sometimes you can get slightly dodgy campaigns). Also, how big are the battles you do in quick battles compared to the campaign ones, as it may be that it is your actual computer that is not up to scratch, ie graphics card or RAM.

I don't have a real save file, it auto saved though, I was on turn 2. I don't think the amount of people would be a problem here. In Medieval II Total War I've done 1000+ on both sides and fought them. Off hand I think the battle was 600 vs 900 for the campaign.

it's strange that the screen just went black, because it usually says that there is an unspecified error and it must close. The way I see it there are two primary possibilities for error:

1. You altered the installation or the base files of the game in such a way with a mod/utility that caused the game to screw up.

2. If you patched the game recently and are running mods on M2TW, some files may be incompatible with teh new version which could cause the game to crash.

If you absolutely can't fix it, backup your save files (they should be in a folder in data or something) and reinstall the game.

Okay it's works now. I uninstalled both M2TW and M2TW Kingdoms and then reinstalled then, it seems everything is working perfectly now. Thanks for the help.
