Need Advice for Fighting Mongols...

So, I am playing as the Sindh. The mongols have recently appeared and have largely surrounded my city of Herat. I have matched the Mongols stack-for-stack in raw numbers, but all my units suck compared to the mongol units. I never can fight battles with numerical superiority, because the mongols move en-mass, plus my laptop aint that great and therefore cannot display 6 full armies at once.

I have a lot of territory and most of my money-making provinces are safely in India and Iraq, so I can make a strategic retreat to fight on friendlier ground. But this will only matter if the mongol armies stop clustering. any advice on how to make the mongols spread out? Or, how to use the Sindh units against the mongols? Up in till now I had been conquering largely with Merc armies of Elephants, Badu Camels, and Ghazi Fanatics. None of those guys work against Mongol Cavalry. Anyone got any pointers for me?

ok you should go horse-heavy, light and heavy cav, your elephants can also scare the mongol heavy cav. give them a settlement so they have a capital, after having a capital they spread out and stop clustering.

also draw them into seige battles, move them into the streets and surround them with spears and heavy infantry.

Hi you.

For 3 Regions and 10.000 Gold the Mongols signed a peace treaty and are now attacking the great seljuks.

Before the mongols appeared i had 29 regions... so i spent 3 to give em a way to the most powerful faction. The great seljuks have about 36 regions in my campaign...

I hope the mongols do a lot of damage. Afterwards i will take back my regions

My tactic:
1. Make small fast cav armies and attack mongol siege weapons.
2. Assassinate generals
3. Use all your forces to take out mongol cavs (mostly aim for light archers, heavy ones are too hard to be taken down)
4. When mongols dont have siege engines and dont have light archers, you can pritty much win all sieges they make, while sending reinforcements to take out more and more cav (infantry will die when trying to take walls)
5. Run and hope they will take detour
6. AI exploit. Make a lot of super small armies and just drop them arround. AI will see "ow a peasant, kill em" and that way you can get enough of time to reinforce front or get higher/stronger units.
7. Bribe. 37k for one army with full scroll diplomat.

Precisely. Dont ever fight Mongols in open field battles. Meet them at the ramparts of your cities and castles/forts. Also on the streets. Street fighting is something that their cavalry is not prepared for. Dont get me wrong, their cavalry will still be very good, but will have less room to move. Make them come into the what I call "meat grinder".

Meet them on a bridge... 3 persian spearmans and my faction leader killed 2700 mongols on a single bridge. Lost the fight tough...

That too. Its a shame that we dont have swiming units like we had in RTW:BI.
It would have been some awesome bridge battles.
So, how did u loose that battle after killing so many of them??

Well you know, before AI ordered them to keep going to other side, they did some defending.
Besides 2700 mongols is about 1 and a half stack, while mongols usually attack with 4 or even 6 stacks.
My spearman fled adn i retreated my general not to lose him (Iwas preparing general army, 26 of em in my empire :p )

haven't met the Mongols yet. Met the Kypchaks and beat some of their nearly all Cav. stacks. Used Infantry in square formation spears forward and on the sides with archers and javelins behind, and had enough Kypchak Mercenary Cav. and other Horse Archers and Cav. on the flanks to beat them. It was somewhat hard at times but they fell to my genius and medium battle setting.

Honestly, In my opinion dont bother until the patch. I didnt want to say this but the Mongols have quite broken strats at the moment, and i received one of my most enduring blows ever by trying to kill just CHinggis haha. THree full stack Khwarezmian armies lost completely ( he wasnt the greatest general, for no reason ) Until the patch you cant expect their armies to be toned down a bit. But since this is not that helpful haha try mostly to get horsearchers, good ones and a lot of them, as well lancers help too to kill their archers but make sure they have high experience. Seriously u will need high experience units to fight the Mongols, at least up to silver if you can do it. As well protect your general from all costs, keep your line fluid and try to fight on the defensive rather than the offensive. Go for hills and other areas that can be defended well, fighting on plains or open deserts is honestly death even if you outnumber them. As well Remember quality over quantity always, you dont want one of your flanks or center going down because some crappy bharat spearmen decided to book it and trigger a chain rout.

Abuse the AI tactically, Attack or defend at rivers with some good infantry and some medium to good generals. Attacking with a captain against a dread lord is just expecting death.

"Was it your brother i killed? you all look the same to me..." is my favorite. The easiest faction for me to fight the mongols are the ghaznavids in sieges. Put daylamis and archers on the walls and fill the streets with khorasani heavy spearmen and their forces will be crushed.

I think elephants do swim, or walk through rivers.

Which factions in BC have elephant units?? I havent played any
of the Indian factions yet.
It would have been great to make the men swimm too.

You can get elephant Mercs in India (the jungles). Sindhi also have mercs but eigther super expensive, or dont have them ><
I think i was able to get some in Ghazni or somewhere in Ghaznivid lands. Or it was that they start/started (in 1.0) with 1 or 2 elephants.

Gaznavids start with 1 elephant unit in 1.05 too. Then when you start the invasion of India you can get merc elephants, their upkeep is quite low too.

I've just send one of my Generals to the Ghaznavid empire in order to recruit as many elephant units as it can. I am fighting death strugle with the Great Seljuks and Abbasids at the moment and I can sure make a good use of Elephants. Armenians are my allies for now, we will see how long its gonna last.
So, they are the only units that can swimm the rivers??

build forts with one unit inside, they will either take them, at which poing you can rush in and slaughter them with spearmen next turn, or go around and spread their armies.
Also try to let them attack a city, they blow at siege assaults.

Simply only ever fight them in sieges and defences, else they are real tough in open field battles.

actually, the Zap Brannigan strategy is working pretty well. I just throw wave after wave of armies at them. im losing 2 or 3 for every mongol, but I think I am winning.
