    Default Fire_by_rank

Hey there I read that the reason gun units suck in vanilla and work way better in in kingdoms is because they have that stupid buggy Fire by rank attribute. I don't know a thing about modding and wanted to ask how can I remove this trait so my gunners will fire like archers/handgunners? If you haven't tried gun units in kingdoms do so especially the calivers are a massive improvement.

    Thanks

hmmm i used spanish musketeers in the kingdoms campaign and they still shot one rank at a time.... shoot, reform, shoot etc....

on the other hand cavalry gunners (calivermen, spanish dragoons) dont use that king of system, they all just shoot for devastating effects

Same with Lithuanian gunners. they all shoot together and it is so cool to watch as well as devastating to anything slow. Can anyone point out how to do this please?

    1. Unpack the EDU (export_descr_units). Use the unpacker in the tools map. (you can find a readme file on how to do things in the tools folder). The EDU wil be placed in the data folder.
    2. edit the EDU and remove the fire by rank attribute of gunpowder units.
    3. create a batch file with a text editor. The line in the batch file should be like this:"C:\Program Files\Med Total War 2\medieval2.exe --io.file_first"

Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

Thanks for replying but I'm not following. I cant find a file that is called export_descr_units neither any EDU files. What do I actually need to unpack thosefiles out of? are they in a container file? Also why do i need a batch file? Do i run that instead of the main exe? will this affect kingdoms as well? Sorry ive never modded anything before im totaly clueless about this stuff. I have read the readme.

alright well the first step is you need to go into the tools folder in the medieval II directory and use the unpacker(there is a way to unpack individual files but I usually unpack the whole thing which takes a while) anyways unpack the game then go into the data folder and find export_descr_units.txt and look for all the gunpowder units and simply remove the fire_by_rank attribute the .bat file is so the game reads the edited files and not the packed up files it shouldn't affect your Kingdoms game and read the readme on the unpacker for any more help on unpacking
