    Default Bryz Flamethrowers

I'm having a problem with these units. For some reason its almost impossible to get them to shoot. I put them in range in two/three ranks and they take ages reforming and then just stand there often getting caught up in the melee because of theit tiny range. when they do shoot they devistate like nothing else and its awesome to watch but they wont shoot even when I pin the enemy unit with another one of my uintis to keep them still ala Naptha bombers in mtw and run the firethrowers to their flank to fire into the unit.

Anyone have some good tips on using greek fire to its potentional?

Anyone notice they have the lamest unit acknowledgements as well? I never liked in mtw2 how most units call themselves infantry etc instead of by name like they all did in rtw,. escpialy how the aztecs used to refer to themselves as infantry in mtw2 Anyone used the nod flame tank in cnc3 now that has great voice acting Imagine if the flamers said something like "fire and death" when selected and CLEANSE THEM" when told to attack or something

I just had a custom battle vs some weak Turkish troops i told the flamers to enguage and they stopped and fired the second the enemy got in range and they were dismounted siphais and it stopped them dead and they routed almost immediately. the unit got to fire about 4 times the whole battle and inflicted 200+ casualties. Ouch. I love the aftermath where you see the cooked enemy and the fires burning on the ground. . If only they always worked that well.

my flamethrowers work like a charm.
the best place to put them is right on top of the gate during a seige and around the gate. nothing gets through. oh yeah, they dont work on cav

I've had the same issues with the flamethrowers in the campaign. If anyone figures out what's up, let us all know.
The Jagdpanzer IV was a tank destroyer developed against the wishes of Heinz Guderian. Its large gun and heavy frontal armor led to poor mobility and made them difficult to operate in rough terrain, leading their crews to nickname them Guderian Ente; Guderian's Duck.

I've had the same problem with the fire throwers just standing around until they get over-run and never firing. People here have claimed to use them to devastating effect but I found them so unreliable as to be almost worthless. It is pretty cool on those rare occasions when they do decide to shoot though.

I found them to be even less use on walls, they barely ever shot at all, however I'm pretty sure of the three or so guys my fire throwers killed from walls two of them were generals. It was bizarre, the general's unit would park under the wall and five minutes later one horse would get crispified and fall over, and it was the general.

my firethrowers work ok for the most part. i would like to know however, when an enemy unit charges your line and are doused with flames why their banners flash red (fighting to the death) instead of white (routing), even though they are still a fair distance from my lines and are not locked in combat with any of my units. Is this because their charge is unstoppable or because they think the only way out is to fight their way through the fire throwers?

red means scared of the flames. If a unit is hit with hornet throwers the banners flash yellow and I think sickness caused by diseased remains thrown by a trebuchet cause them to flash green its like a shorthand so you can know right away whatsd cauing the fear.

Are hornet throwers realistic at all? It seems to me that they'd not be very devastating weapons...

If I was to get hit in the head with a nest of hornets... I wouldn't be much good for the melee, I'd be running for the closest river.

In regards to the flame throwers, I have gotten the impression they work much along the same lines as nafta.... nafta required a lil space between them and their allies to be effective. If your other units are too close they won't throw, same seems to apply to flame throws, at least thats been my experience.

I never used them on the field except to block bridges. If the enemy used cavalry, I would basically use them to flank the side but not to block. It takes them too long to ready themselves against a fast mover.

I did read in another thread about a tactic of using peasants in front of them, to momentarily stop a charging enemy. The person then manually targetted the attacker, roasting everyone.
    -----
In sieges, they are supreme when placed a proper distance from a gate. Placed in a three row formation in line with the gate, with two units of spearmen flanking the gate, produces the best result. Enemy units will target the spearmen and peel left and right, giving your fire throwers a clear shot.

The reason I say a three row formation, is because the two row produces too wide of a firing arc. You also don't want the sides of the unit touching any collision boxes (like those of buildings), as this can cause them to constantly reform.
    --------------
The Northern Eurpoean castle is the only one that I have found that they do well from the walls (the two walls that flank the gate). They will only fire sporadically, but will almost always stop ramming attempts.

They can do well against siege towers, but the result varies depending on what types of defensive towers you have. More times than not, alone they will get the siege towers down to 60-80% damage before attackers hit th walls. Used in combination with cannon or ballista towers, they'll rarely if ever reach your walls.

manually targeting the enemy, works really good for most ranged weapons. That means turn off the auto-target, and with that comes the problem, that during the heat of battle, they may stop firing due to the original targeted enemy being destroyed or routing.

But yeah I use manual targeting with just about all my ranged units. At least to the point of the battle becoming pure chaos..... at that point I'll auto-target them just so I don't have to worry about wither or not they're shooting at anybody. That way I can concentrate on my other attacking units.

greek firethrowers are a lil tricky to use because of "line of sight" issues - much like cannons

they need to be able to actually see the enemy (best thing to do is to zoom to ground level and check out if u can see the actual models u wanna shoot at) - if u are behind a small slope for example you wont get to shoot at the enemy coz despite bing in range you cant see them

none of the models should have their line of fire blocked - if a few models are behind a wall the whole unit will start reforming and wont shoot... one thing to notice is that there are some map features (dunno exactly which) that despite giving you a clear view of the enemy actually "block" the shots of the firethrowers

thats what i can think of for now

In the field, they are definetly a micro-managememnt unit. The time it takes to prepare to fire and their line of sight fire (combined with poor defense), means you really have to keep a close eye on them.

I actually don't like using them on the battlefield because of this..... Riflemen and cannon included (though they are easier to deal with than gunpowder units.).

I had the same problem with firethrowers except in sieges. Schiltrom to stop the enemy, firethrowers to hit their flank. Bye bye Canons of the Holy Sepulchre! I was playing a custom battle and my friend hated them. Even if 5 of my flamethrowers survived the fights on the walls, they were devastating.

    hm never had these problems

flamethrowers are a defence unit against infantry
so let them stand and wait till the enemy come close

the issue is always the line of sight and that they seldom fire from walls but after all 1 of them and 1 unit spearmen will hold any breach in the wall.
having one or two of them in your army is always nice

TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
