Damn, this is getting realy ridiculous. I think you'll all have guessed what I'm on about: the traits system. I know this issue isn't limited to BC alone, but most mods who have an extended traits system. Its just weird, how come everyone is that retarded, its not even realistisc anymore when my complete bloodline is dysfunctional and has disfigured views and misses an arm etc.etc.
What I think this needs is a percentage based thingy, that makes it so that certain traits you wil come across very often and some others will be very rare. Any thought on this?

I guess it's a rule for all pricesses...
Once! I have seen an ERE princess with four 'hearts', and just in next turn she was given some "-1 charm" retinue by Allah (Mirage41) before I could get her...
    Damn.
I guess sandy and rocky Outremer is not the best for princesses' complexion..

Yes, the trait system is a double-edged sword.

My Seljuk Royal family are all Shiites which means they have no authority/loyalty/piousness.

In another campaign my ERE Basileus earned the title Lord of Terror (through the trait Warlord of Dread...something like that) purely through winning too many battles (or is it something else?), even though he's never killed any prisoners or sacked any city.

But I suppose if bad traits are uncommon then every one will be a 10 star general.

I agree with "Lord of terror" paradox.
I've got utterly chivalrious KOJ general (10 command, 8 chivalry, 10 loyalty, 10 piety) and he's been nicknamed 'Lord of terror' because he just wins (I always occupy and relase/ransom prisoners). Still he's got at least approx. -5 dread from his "dread" traits and I believe this nickname is not based on total chivalry/dread (+8 as you see) but on on this ~ -5.

But I guess that you get "Winning first' trait when you kill most (or all) of enemies instead capturing them ('kill' them when they're routing)

some factions seem to attract particular traits.

Currently KOJ seem to be all unhealthy cowards, who hate blood, are thick but virile. Trouble is cannot aquire any wives for them

ERE very rarely aquired the above but seem very keen to walk around embracing men, were infirtile yet produced sprogs and superstitious. Good traders etc often cropped up.

Luck of the draw? or someones sense of humour?

I disagree. I really believe that it depends on your playing style and it's not at least purely random. My KOJ generals are healthy and fine with blood chivalrious bastards - at least those used for battles (a few, including the king). They usually get 'paranoid' trait as well very often and sometimes 'dubious' for no reason. Anyway war is the best way to get some traits
Currently I only have two of ~20 generals without wives (including newly coronated king - his father was legendary commander (+5) & great cavalry commander (+3 with cavalry) - will'se what son will show...)

But I have problems with merchants - they're ofter quite religious so they miss some opportunities (Is it related to cathedral in this city? Am I to burn it to the ground?

do not recruit merchants in cities with huge catherdrals or you lose 2 points as they are religous.

My playing style is no different whether ERE or KOJ it just they seem to aquire similar traits. I have a couple of 8* with gold bars generals who are both now cowards, hypochondiracs and do not like blood simply by existing traits at 16 building up

This is what I see happening in all the factions I have tried, that is, the royal family members get worse as the game progresses. This has occurred with every faction. Too bad you can't assassinate them, but that's OK, evry now and again another good one comes along and you can switch retunies (sp?) between them.

I've observed that if a general is sitting on his huge backside doing nothing, he's more likely to develop bad traits. If he's up and about, fighting, conquering, etc, he's more likely to stay away from bad traits.
