Game crashes after sacking castle... help!
Medieval Total War II Nerds, and I mean that in the most respectful way possible, you are my last hope.
I have posted this problem on several other forums to no avail. This is my last hope. If I can't find an answer on this forum, I doubt it exist.
Here is the situation. This has happened to me on several games.
I'm playing through with no problems, at least 35-45 turns, when the game crashes with this message: "Medieval Total War II has encountered an unspecified error and will now shut down."
This occurs immediately after taking a castle. It doesn't matter if I autoresolve the battle or play it out manually. If I choose to play it manually, everything is fine, but after the battle is over the game crashes.
Now, here's the weird thing, it also crashes even if I am not involved in the battle.
I'll give you the two most recent examples.
Example 1: I'm playing as Scotland, am about 40 turns into the game, and am sieging a castle in the north owned by Denmark. As soon as the castle falls, the game crashes.
Example 2: I'm playing as Poland and am about 30 turns into the game. I end my turn, the other factions cycle and then the game crashes. I turned on watch AI to see what happens. The game crashes every time after Englands turn. What is England doing? It's attacking a French castle. I watch the English army attack the French castle and occupy it (their flag goes up) and then the game crashes!
I dowloaded the latest patch in hopes it would fix this problem, but it's still happening!
Anyone had any experience with this type of problem?

Is it a mod? Have you modified any files? What version of the game? What castle are you taking as Scotland? What castle is England Taking when you are Poland?

It's not a mod. It was the just the standard version that first came out. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
Then I updated to the 1.2 patch to see if that would change things (it didn't) and that's currently what I'm running.
In my Scotland game, I'm trying to take Stockholm, The Capital of Denmark.
In my Poland game, England is attacking Toulouse, the Capital of France.
I have played two games before without running into this problem with Venice and Spain. Spain I finished, but Venice I did not.

Sounds like a random bug. 1.2 patch is the best fix for battles. Could you reload it and see if it would crash in the same place?

Hmm... I'm unsure what you're asking here.
I updated the game to the 1.2 patch and then loaded both of my saved games. Both crashed at the same spot.

Re: Game crashes after sacking castle... help!
Some time ago I did alter the the number of years that takes place between turns. I can't remember when I did this (if I did it before or after my games with Spain and Venice that suffered no problems).
Do you think this could be causing a problem?
Not sure if the timescale change was reset upon reinstallation, either.
The current timescale is "timescale 2.00." Is that the default?
