Default An Album for A Season

Ever think a certain album fits in with a certain season's mood? Well I certainly have. Post one for each season and why you think why, I'll keep a list in the first post.

Spring - Flogging Molly ~ Swagger

A lively and relatively happy album for the new birth season. Plus St. Patrick's Day is in Spring

Summer - Modest Mouse ~ This is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About

Long instrumental breaks and good road trip songs also double as a perfect soundtrack for just chilling out in a backyard.

Fall - AFI ~ Sing the Sorrow

Perhaps I listened to this album in the fall, but it reminds me of falling leaves, frosty nights and death

Winter - The National ~ Boxer

A beautiful and haunting album with songs made for long winter nights in the city.

My albums are great for all seasons! But I suppose that this works well enough:

Spring - The Kinks ~ Village Green Preservation Society

SPRING Days of Future Passed (1967)

Five young men in an R&B band are told to create a rock version of Dvorak's New World symphony, but they can't be bothered, so they actually create the first classical-rock fusion album (with Peter Knight).

    SUMMER Seventh Sojourn (1972)

The Moody Blues at the height of their fame just before they broke up. The early rawness gone, they are technically accomplished and passionate about the issues of the day.

    AUTUMN The Present (1983)

A reformed Moody Blues (without Mike Pinder - who doesn't want to tour any more) settle down to a steady output of one album every two years.

    WINTER December (2003)

Ray Thomas has retired, but Justin, John and Graeme put out one last (Christmas!!!) album. It is slow and smooth with every rough edge polished to a soft gleam.

    The Moody Blues rule!

    Autumn
Nick Drake ~ Five Leaves Left

    Drudkh ~ Autumn Aurora

    Winter
It's not for everyone, but lots of black metal bands go for a 'cold' atmosphere:

    SPRING
Brand New--The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me

This was good for the long, cold spring we just had in the central US. The frost wouldn't quite go away and more often than not you'd get to class by riding through a cold mist. Made for quiet, beautiful mornings--but you needed more. This album has the perfect mix in its songs. It's quiet, then building, then pure energy. I'll miss my rides to school to this album or the wanderings between class but it's likely next spring will be different and another album will fit better.
    Welcome to Bangkok
    Jesus Christ

    SUMMER
    Bloc Party--Silent Alarm

It's hard to pin down why exactly this is my choice. Perhaps because it somehow fits bests with the windows down and the highway. The music is fast and upbeat, don't need anything more than that for the summer. Plus I'm not ashamed to blast this at stoplights.
    Luno
    This Modern Love

    AUTUMN
Margot and the Nuclear So & So's--The Dust of Retreat

Well, Margot is one of my favorite bands, and this album fits the quiet autumn best. Autumn is my favorite season--the days are still beautiful but they're slower and quieter, with a fewer last hurrahs before winter. This album is the same way. It's melodic and slower, but at the same time it can really rock. I have good memories from this past autumn, riding my bike through the leaves while this album played.
    Quiet as a Mouse
    Skeleton Key

    WINTER
    The National--Boxer (duh)

Quiet, slower music for the winter. Perfect for those long, dreary walks to class and sitting with a blanket wrapped around you. It's perfect night driving music too, with the lights crossing over the car seemingly to the tune. Great album and even better in the right environment.

My album for this summer (at least) Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

A fall album? Insomnium - Above the Weeping World

Can't come up with anything else atm...going to sleep soon...to add to the my album of the decade or the era if you will.

Slayer - God Hates Us All

Relevant lyrical material for the War on Terror and interesting release date of September 11th of 2001.

Perhaps I can come up with some Winter and Spring albums

Spring-Okkervil River, Don't Fall in Love With Everyone You See

Summer-The Unicorns, Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?

    Fall-Cursive, Cursive's Domestica

Winter-The Good Life, Novena On a Nocturn

    But wait, there's more!
Whole Year, The good Life, Album of the Year, because it's written for a year, with every song as a month, starting in April

    Spring -

    Bob Marley - Uprising

Reminds me of college dorms in spring with the music loud, the cool Michigan spring air blowing into the room and the sounds of Bob Marley.

    Summer -

Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Live @ Luthor

Best commercial release of a Dave & Tim concert. I've seen em live and this one comes closest to capturing the magic these two share together. The laid back version of #41 made me fall in love with this album all over again.

    Autumn -

Death Cab For Cutie - Plans

Something about the quiet desperation of the lyrics reminds me of the way fall fights to hang on to summer. That magical mix of auburn and gold leaves
with the brisk days and beaming sunshine is perfectly paired with this album.

    Winter -

Mark Mothersbaugh Tracks on the Rushmore Soundtrack

Snowflake music is the theme song for Christmas at my house. The busy holiday shopping at the malls and frantic pace of Christmas & New Year is definitely The Lad With The Silver Button.

    Loved reading everyone's suggestions.

Immortal's "grim and frostbitten" music fits pretty well with winter
