Default Hitler as an Avatar? Part II ("Weekly Pillory Thread")

The main problem is that there is no democratic vote for or against the Hitler avatar. The rulers of TWC become entangled into a contradictory position if they banish dictators in a dictatorial manner.

And here we come to the crucial point. Some weird participants of "Hitler as an Avatar" (Part I) think that they act in a democratical forum, but this is an illusion. It’s feudalistically structured.

I don’t mind. In my times it was even worse. And I suggest to install a weekly “pillory thread” where members who rebelled against the feudalistic order are listed for their heretic deeds in an ironical way.

This would be a funny thing . We loved that in my times.

    Best wishes and prayers

I thought the conversation had become the Confederate flag?

In my opinion, if it's a picture that is commical of Hitler sure, but otherwise I wouldn't allow them. But it's not up to me.

The problem with this is how far you extend this rule.

Is an avatar of Mel gibson insulting due to some accusations he made against a ethnic/religious group?

btw: the reason i use this pic as an avatar isnot because i'm a fan of mel gibson but due to his smug appearance in this photo

As far as Hitler is concerned, I don't think his photo should be banned at all, regardless of whether it is displayed in mockery or admiration of him. He is a very important historic figure. Not a nice guy, perhaps, but I think it is a mistake to pretend that he never existed. I guess I just don't see the point.
"There is a difference between what is wrong and what is evil. Evil is committed when clarity is taken away from what is clearly wrong, allowing wrong to be seen as less wrong, excusable, right, or an obligatory commandment of the Lord God Almighty.

Evil is bad sold as good, wrong sold as right, injustice sold as justice. Like the coat of a virus, a thin veil of right can disguise enormous wrong and confer an ability to infect others."

Interesting opinion. I would personally allow it, just to remember people of his existence, his deeds, and need to never allow that to happen again.

The point I was trying to make is that there is no „democratic“ legitimation.
I’m new here and obviously there sometimes problems with Hitler, Stalin, Franco etc. avatars.
But if you suppress these choices without equitable claim there will be moroseness.

So why not put these matters to the vote in a separate thread?

If more than 50% are against Hitler avatars, you can easily ban them without problems of legitimation.

The other possible alternative is, which I think is more amusing, is to install a “Weekly Pillory Thread” where members are listed for “heretic” deeds. They might get negative reputation in form of little gallows instead of rings.

3 gallows could lead to a forum ban for 1 week or whatever.
As a consequence, members using Hitler avatars would be often banned, of course, only temporarly.

Let's put it this way: if you don't want to use Hitler as an avatar, then don't. But you should not stop other people from doing so if they wish. They aren't being directly hateful or violent by merely displaying an avatar. Being fascist to suppress fascism is more than hypocritical, it's just plain rude, and furthermore increases interest in the suppressed concept by putting on a pedestal as a sort of "forbidden fruit".

    ????????????????????

It's perfectly allright to me to see any avatar the people like. I started this thread, because I didn't like to see members banned with "problematic" avatars for "no" reason.

And my "Weekly Pillary Thread" proposal was thought for amusement.

Personally I wouldn't put Hitler as an avatar, but it's a democracy, so what can you do? If no one is purposly being hateful then i guess it's ok...

It's history is it not? we can't run. As long as you don't preach it. Hitler was a dang fine public speaker. The confederate flag still has it's pride in the south of the U.S.A.*Raises glass* Can't escape the past. I won't have one though.

Firstly, discussion of TWC policy belongs in Questions & Suggestions. Secondly, there's already a thread on the first page of Q&S for this. Closed.
