Is this for M2? How do we do this? I mean how does the game know where to put the city? How do we tell it where the borders for a region are? How does it place the roads? How does it place the ports? I want to add regions but even if the town is a X,Y value how do I know what that is?

Slowly, this tutorial is simply explaining the text part of placing a region.
This is the M2 tutorial section, so it can be fairly safely assumed that it is for M2. Nothing has changed in the mapping department with regards to Kingdoms, so the same applies. Tutorial writers will make special notes if it is for Kingdoms only.
For the graphic part (which your questions are about) check this tutorial: Creating a World - Basic Mapping from scratch

You will need Python 2.5 and string.bin convertor to convert the strings, bin files in data\text folder into .txt files.

Hi, man! I follow you instructions, try to create new region Ras ( the old Serbia, bordered with Zagreb, Ragusa and Sofia ) but game wont start. Deleted map.rwm, edited map_regions.tga, but still crash on campaign start. Here is my edited files, maybe you can find the error! Hope this first try wont be my last!

If you used the vanilla map, then you will have triggered the Ragusa port bug. The pixel for the port has to be placed one down, one right of it's present place.

I try that now, it wont start again. I used your installation for new faction, try first to create region for starting position. Here is map.

When you say 'used your installation' did you mean Bare Geomod? Because that installation contains all the mapping files to work with the Geomod tool. All the inherent errors like this Ragusa Port Bug have also been removed and it is playable.

JPG pictures are unfortunately too fuzzy to see enough details. And the descr_regions and imperial_campaign-... files will be needed as well (descr_strat too if have entered the region there already) to check what kind of error happened. Simply compress those files (in their original format) and attach them here.

OK, i install Geomod 1.02, start campaign, works fine. Then i create Ras region, game wont start, report error with Brazil region. Repair that, start again, did not crash, but wont start campaign. This is a log:

I try moving settlement up/down - left/right but still wont start. So here is my files, maybe you can see error.

    08:51:23.703 [script.err] [error] Script Error in mods/Bare_Geomod/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial_campaign/descr_strat.txt, at line 3242, column 12
could not create settlement at script line 3242.
That's the only error, I will have to check which one it is.

Edit: the settlement pixel for brazil sits right at the edge, not sure if that is the problem.

Edit2: there was a bit of a formatting problem in descr_regions, fixed that for you, see attachment.

Thank you for creating Geomod. After beating my head against the wall for a few days I am finally getting the hang of it. One question I do have is there a way to add a garrison to the newly created region so one doesn't have to go back to the descr_strat and add them manually? I have searched for an answer to this but my eyes are now buggy from looking so much. Thanks for your time.

Sorry for resurrecting, but I want to say thank you very much for this, I wasn't sure if the trade resources added to map need to be put in descr_regions too. Also thanks for all your guides and tutorials. Also Geomod is just awesome

BTW, I want to correct something, for units to have legion names, units need the legionary_names attribute in EDU and it's not needed to add names to imperial_campaign_regions_and_settlement_names.txt, just in descr_regions the line legion: Brittanica for example is enough and units will be named like Legio I,II,III Brittanica.

    Thanks for the praise.
Have you tested the matter of the legionary_name? It would be rather curious if the game would display that name without help from a text file. For instance special characters are not accepted in descr_regions, if you enter the (none special character) entry in imperial_campaign_regions.. and then have the special characters as display, then the display will be shown, eg {bismark}Fόrst Bismark
    Same applies to spaces.

Ah indeed you're right I just put the name of the settlement to most legions in descr_regions, like legion: Edessa and it uses the ones already in imperial_campaign_reg..., for those which I put unique name it didn't appear. Thank you.

No problem, I thought as much. The use of already existing entries can lead to that assumption.

I hope someone can help me.
I created a new region and everything works fine (construction, recruitment, etc.) but I can't enter the town with any unit or general.
