    Default new cold war

first idea-do you think a new cold war will eventually develope between China and The US? Some scholars are saying that it is only a matter of years before China's navy starts to expand into the pacific, and like the japanese we will eventually butt heads. Others say that China will eventually run low on oil/natural gas, and expand into the central aisan states, particullary kazakhstan which is very rich in oil and natural gas. This would probably make the other aisan stated warry, and a whole new form of cold war would evolve, because the US would most likely be neutral. Or they would call for our aid and the US would be the worlds protector and hero once again.

    your thoughts

nah, recently here about the new trade system between America and China ? Was in the news, Im sure this will better the ties Between East-West. Though i do worry that China and America will Conflict over something or other, like you say it could be a New arms race or anything, well have to wait and see.

Only if China changes from its historic perspective. USA has global commitments, but has never been effective at expansion in the manner of the Soviet Union. Without the expansionist policies of the USSR, there would not have been a cold war, iron curtain or military blocks locked in fear.

Vietnam and other proxy wars could still possibly occur. This is not the essence of what made the cold war such high stakes.

isnt it funny how we all assume USA is going to be the 'good guys' when, if we take south america and the ME's example of america as the 'world's protector', we'd quickly see that the USA is no different to communist china or soviet russia when it comes to taking over other countries.
china's ventures in central asia and africa are little different to the USG's diplomatic trade deals with SEA countries like indonesia; heck at least one good thing i can see about china's trade and 'welfare' for these states is that it doesnt attmept to influence the local gov. or tell them how to run their affairs, ahem ahem USA and panama

And you do not think that China will be highly interested in the affairs of countries near shipping lane bottle necks that are critical for Chinese trade?

China and the USA are not fundamentally differant. The differences that do exist will narrow as China developes.

Also it is very likely that world will be multipolar instead of bipolar.

If EU can get it's show together it will rise to compete with both China and USA.

Russia will eventually get back on it's feet and will rise to compete with China and USA.

India is big question mark right now. They appear to have all the necessary resources but tend to appear to stick to their corner of the world.

I see it quite likely that in few decades we see fierce competition between China, USA, EU and Russia.

Not necessarily cold war though, but very much heavy competition where little ones are in danger to get trampled.

I wont live to see that. Very long from happening.
But honestly, China is superfast industrially expanding, but there is point where the expansion will no longer be possible, and world is already being flooded with the low quality stuff they make, Question is if they will be able to maintan their economics like the other industrialized nations do, or will they crumble beneath their own feet.

the current way of selecting leaders in China just makes it impossible to select an unpredictable dictator (like Kim in Korea).

all you got is a bunch of technocrats who are scared to make changes and would try anything just to keep unity and balance among regional forces.

I don't think a war will break out at all, combat wise. On the other hand, I think that a "war" between market is going on now and will only get worse.

somehow i cant see russia ever being the superpower it once was.
nobody'll want to have to relive the original cold war again; at least this new 'cold war' is less ideological and more pragmatic, and we humans are very pragmatic
so this neo-cold war which expresses itself in the current 'new great game' would be more about world resources and fuel.
central asia is chockful of oil and natural gas and wouldnt it just be dandy if there were US bases in more than one '-stan' country where they can guard over their oil and gas and monitor the russians and chinese:

Nope. I don't think that this could ever happen. China and America need each other, and will for a while. They have a sort of symbiotic relationship.

Why does everybody think China is the enemy? Once we get our economy sorted out, and China emerges from the Dark Ages a little, i forsee a bright future full of elves, pixies and dancing around in circles in green fields, where China, Russia, US, the EU and India are all in perfect harmonious alliances.
A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."

Could be something like that in the future.
