Just a quick question here and that is in your humble estimation what would be the most realistic/best difficulty level (campaign/battle) playing as the Spanish with some house rules to go slower?
    Rules such as:
    1. No retraining of units
    2. Only Generals can initiate attacks
    3. Anything else I can think of later

    Thanks for the input,

well if you want a slower campaign, you could just download a mod like SS

Well, my guess is that he is playing the americas campaign, and in that case it wont help download SS, because they removed Americas completely from the newest version (6.1)
This is my signature! There are many like it, but this one is mine!

For a slow campaign I'd guess the easiest difficulty would be the slowest, but I've never tried. Makes sense though, harder difficulty means you get attacked more.

Yep, it's whilst playing the Americas Campaign. What I've done is:
    1. Change the timescale to 1/2 yr turns (so generals age properly)
    2. Never retrain units but recruit new ones and disband old ones (AI
doesn't apparently retrain or repair buildings for that matter)
    3. Only generals can initiate attacks and armies led by captains can
only go from city to city if it's in one turn or joining an army led by a
    general.
    4. The maximum tax rate setting allowed is high, cities are micro-
managed and the minimum loyalty setting acceptable is 75%.
    5. Battles are never auto-resolved (which leads to some interesting
sieges as many can attest to).
    6. All allied requests for assistance are honored without exception.
    7. Generally, I take the time to build up sufficient force and try to go
methodically through the opposition but the AI definitely doesn't
respond in a rational manner. It will siege and then for no apparent
reason, march off into the distance. If the Mayans were to come
down on the Spanish like a ton of bricks that would make for a great
campaign in my opinion. If more of the Native Americans would
coordinate their thrusts then the massive tech edge the Spanish have
    would be severely tested.
    8. For battle difficulty I play on Very Hard and the same for the campaign.
    9. Any suggestions fellow wargamers for a slower campaign but somewhat
    within the realm of reason?

p.s Is there a way to make the AI more aggressive in a reasonable manner
as far as the campaign settings (king's purse, etc.) go and the battle
AI more intelligent than an IQ rating of a racquetball?

as far as making the ai get smarter people highly recommend lusted's mods (though im not sure if they work in kingdoms :S)

i havent tried them myself tho, so i cant offer a personal experience on how better/harder the game will get
