Size of general´s bodyguard

How big can the unit with the general´s bodyguard be? And how is it determined how big it can get?
I thought it had something to do with influence, since worthless generals but great governors get a huge bodygaurd still...
I have a unit now of 110 horses, great commander, but lots of influence too.

the size is determined by influence, personal security and eventually king's or heir's status (which increases the size by 50% and 100% respectively, if I remember correctly...). The max size is 124+1 with "huge" setting.

^^perfect answer right there, + rep. Just want to add, personal security is the dominating factor for bodyguard size, with the exception of faction heir/leader status.

In fourth level barracks Macedon (or is it fifth?) I can train a unit called general bodyguard now. This is just a unit, right? Not a general?

Never played BI. So, this trained general can get stars? traits? ancilaries? be governor?

As far as I can remember they don't get married and have children. They can, however, be adopted into your family for outstanding performance in battle just like a captain after which they will.

Ow i loved playing BI as the Sassanids :p THose lovely Generals of them. Immortal cibbinarii you could defeat with your King a full stack of the Eastern Roman Empire

In EB greek city generals had spartan royal body guards.

5 family = 5 units of SRG with command bonuses and scary factor awesome.

I rather have cavalry as a bodyguard then infantry.

Ok so you'd rather have 40 HC as opposed to 80 SRG each with 2 hit points? :hmmm:

Yes, i rather have that cav as my hammer + the charge of a HC is really devastating.

I too prefer cavalry bodygaurd over infantry bodygaurd. For a lot of factions their bodygaurd is the strongets HC, especially in the early game when you can't train HC. Also the ability of the bodygaurd to expand in size is very usefull.
