    Default Large Armies

I'm usually pretty good at games in general, but the TW series does my head in. I'm fine at the TBS portion, and ok at commanding small armies, but when I have to command anything above, say, 1000 men (against an appropriately strong enemy), I've got no idea what to do. So, any pointers for controlling large armies?

I want to say that it usually depends what your army/what the enemy army consists of. Although, you can always pause mid-battle and issue orders before resuming again. That way you have more time to think and all.

Fighting with large armies is the same as fighting with small armies: it all comes down to tactics. I'll assume any army you have is well rounded with spearmen, infantry, missile troops, cavalry, and perhaps an artillery or two. Obviously this isn't always the case though.

Even with a small army against a large one, the right tactics will pull you through every time. Use hit and runs, feints, the terrain, brute force, and flanking maneuvers to whittle away your enemies.

Just think of all the units of the same type as one unit in field battles and group them together.

like Double A said, use "squadrons" of units, units serving the same purpose in a group (like shock units, support units, flanking cavalry, direct cavalry, etc etc)
later, when the situation changes, you can change your squadrons according to the function you want them to serve (if you need extra time to do so, you can even pause during the battle [but dont get used to it for online play])
