Default Trolls, Trolls, and more Trolls!

There has never been a discussion on how fans think trolls should be represented in game. Post all you'd like to see happen with trolls.

    Including what kinds.

My personal opinion. Different kinds of Trolls found on The Encyclopedia of Arda

    Orcs of the Misty Mountains
The Orcs of the Misty Mountains should have the most kinds of Trolls since they origined from the Misty Mountains and the valleys of the Anduin. They should be quite prominent in their armies.
    They should use:

-Cave Trolls. Basic trolls, not much armoured. Just use a hammer/axe/spear or something.
-Hill-Trolls. Somewhat larger then Men. Could be better armoured, carry hammers.

    Mordor:
I think Mordor should use the strongest trolls, as in best armour and best weapons. Seems logic as Sauron most likely had the best technolligy to make mass amounts of armour and weapons for the trolls, and ofcourse also because he was the one that bred most of the Trolls.

-Olog-Hai. The strongest of all the Trolls. They are stronger, more intellignt and have more skills then any other troll. Maybe they should look like the Trolls that storm the gates of Minas Tirith in ROTK movie. Heavily armoured.
    -Hill-Trolls.
Somewhat larger then Men. Could be better armoured, carry hammers.
-Mountain-trolls. These trolls could be used for Grond for Mordor, if possible ofcourse. If not, then I'd say they should be a strong type of Trolls, heavily armoured with swords/hammers/axes.

    Isengard:

Isengard should not use much trolls, therefore I think they should use the Hill-Trolls, especially used for work in the pits of Isengard and not specifically for warfare.

-Hill-Trolls. Somewhat larger then Men. Could be armoured, carry hammers.

Note that I used most information in the list from Arda. This is just my personal list, not specifically true to Tolkien as I am not sure Isengard used Trolls.

Mordor should have Mountain trolls instead of Hill trolls. IMO

I think that one should be a Mountain-Troll/Hill-Troll, they would be controlling the siege equipments, if possible.

Good idea to use pics btw.

I think you lads have all the major troll types covered, but there are a few esoteric ones that might be of interest for more flavour:

    Stone-trolls
    http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/s/stonetrolls.html - Encyclopedia of Arda
Stone-trolls are my personal favourite variety, being the species of the delightfully named Tom, Bert and Bill Huggins in The Hobbit. Obviously the biggest problem for including Stone-trolls would be the fact that they turn to stone in sunlight, making them somewhat impractical for day battles, but this is also a problem for cave-trolls: I would suggest for gameplay purposes that the insidious will of Sauron would be able to imbue stone/cave trolls with enough resistance to sunlight to be able to function.

    Snow-trolls
    http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/s/snowtrolls.html - Encyclopedia of Arda
"Helm grew fierce and gaunt for famine and grief; and the dread of him alone was worth many men in the defence of the Burg. He would go out by himself, clad in white, and stalk like a snow-troll into the camps of his enemies, and slay many men with his hands."
~The Lord of the Rings Appendix A, "The House of Eorl"
This is the only reference to Snow-Trolls in LOTR, but given the general wording I think it's reasonable to extrapolate that Snow-Trolls actually existed. Presumably they'd be found in the far north (Angband?), white in colour, adapted to the cold and prefer using their hands in combat. Orcs of the Misty Mountains would probably benefit from these guys, though they would be very rare and little seen.

    Giants
    http://www.glyphweb.com/arda/g/giants.html - Encyclopedia of Arda
Giants are only referred to in The Hobbit, but the evidence and quotations give plenty of evidence that they existed (Gandalf, Thorin and the others certainly act as though they were real), though their nature is a mystery: whether they are trolls, a large race of men or some kind of nature spirits is uncertain. Gandalf's quote "I must see if I can't find a more or less decent giant" is particularly interesting, as it implies that giants could be good or evil, or at least neutral, but I think it would be more fun to just have evil giants. As with Snow-Trolls, I think Orcs of the Misty Mountains would benefit most from them, as an extremely rare heavy-hitting unit.

Just thought I'd leave these suggestions.

i would rekommend smaller groups because trolls where a lot harder to get hold of than eg. orcs. They dont breed as much and are too good in larger groups, and it wouldnt be fun if they died really easily

I never knew trolls where in Isengard. Although if you got it from the Encyclopedia of Arda then its probably right(even though the articles over there are stupidly short)

If grond is put in as an ultimate type of seige unit that might take three-four turns to build, I think trolls should drive it. Isengaurd should in my opinion have trolls that are weaker than mordor's and the orcs of the misty mountains, but make up for it with uruks instead of orcs.

@Iustinianos, your mountain troll picture doesn't show, it just says "This Image was stolen from patriot resource"

Well, I am not sure if Isengard used trolls. It does not say so on Arda(which indeed often gives annoyingly short descriptions, check Wikipedia for detailed info :thumbsup4) But I imagine they did, seeing that Isengard was very close to the Misty Mountains.

And er....sorry for going a bit off topic but where is the button to + someones rep? (I am a bit noobish xD, just joined). For some reason I can click add rep to my own reputation, but that does nothing but show me how much rep I have. But I cannot add rep to others as far as I can tell.
