    Default First Strike

So, I have a Venice campaign, my Cardinal is Pope, I have full favor, and Milan has average favor with the Pope. Milan just attacked my ally, Sicily, so, since they did that, I'm supposed to kill them off, they are the ally of my enemy, and I hate their guts anyway, I killed of their army attacking the Sicilians and took Milan. Then, the previous Pope (not mine... yet) told me to stop for like 8 turns.

Now that the "mission" is over and my Cardinal is the Pope, can I just attack Milan straight out and simountainlsouly(sp) take all 3 of their cities or should I tick them off first? And since I did that little war with them, how am I going to tick them off now? (Relations are around Very Poor)
Jon had taken Donal and Benjen’s advice to heart: Sam may be fat and pathetic, but he is still a member of the watch, and one of the few black brothers who isn't a rapist or thief. (out of context, this sounds ridiculously racist)

March an army in their lands, wait for them to attack your army first, then unleash all hell upon them. Gift the pope a healthy dose of money between your attacks upon the Milanese cities and you should be all set.

Why do I need to give the Pope money if, militarily and spiritually speaking, I am at a perfect relationship? (I gave him 20000-30000 florins 45 turns ago and no problems since)

Do the former: If you have enough troops, attack all three of their cities simultaneously. Make sure all your attacking forces have siege equipment capable of breaching the walls (ALL walls in the case of a citidel), so that you do not have to wait a turn, and can attack in the same turn in which you start the siege. Then Milan will be wiped from the map before they have a chance to lodge and end of turn complaint. You will suffer no ill will from the Pope. Has worked many times for me.

You and Milan are still at war, correct? Your mission from the Pope did not end the war; just force a respite in actual violence. Go get 'em.

actually, I called a ceasefire for like 10000 florins on the last turn of the "mission" so the old Pope wouldn't be ticked, but then the next turn he died.

Worst 10000 anything I ever spent in a game.

i agree with noble nick.... if u can manage to take all their cities at once u wont get excommunicated from the pope

btw - if u get a cease hostilities order and they attack you, you wont get any effects for defending urself (unless u are sieging a settlement and they sally) so paying for a cease fire while under mission from the pope wasnt a good idea imo :s then again, u dont seem to be having problems with cash
