    Default Marian cavalry?

did a search but it collected posts from all the mods, so, here's my Q: I just got the Marian reforms this past weekend. My faction leader was selected as Consul, and the was the last thing he needed (he had the necessary command stars and influence, and had the "popularis" trait). the reforms were thus triggered.

I noticed, however, that there did not seem to be any cavalry that was able to be recruited. can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    thanks in advance.

In this period cavalry raised in the italic provinces became rarer and rarer, being replaced by mercs and auxillary units from gallic, germanic, iberian and thracian provinces.

Assuming you had regional barracks rather than going straight to type I or type II governments, you can still recruit regional cavalry.

And as Foot said, mercs are good. I still think Curepos are among some of the best versatile cavalry you can get.

Just wait until the Augustan reforms, you'll have all the cavalry you ever wanted..

is that time-triggered or condition-triggered? I never thought I'd get a faction member to secure all those pre-conditions for the Marian reforms. I almost gave up on it, instead heading for the 90-province condition.

then, go figure, it happened along the way.

    From the Europa Barbarorum FAQ:

    -At least year 125BC
    -Hold 90 settlements
-Have at least 45 type2 settlements
    -Fight 400 battles
    -Have a general that is:
    Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous
    At least Skilled Bureaucrat
    At least Arrogans
    At least Expert Recruiter
    Can't be Selfless
(If these conditions are met, the general will receive a trait telling he wants to seize power. Make him the Faction Heir and as soon as he becomes the leader the reforms will happen.)

As for units, you get a wide variety of infantry and cavalry available outside of Italy, you can train legions everywhere from
Britain to the Persian Gulf, and you get a very elite one only available in Roma.

In short: A huge improvement from the Marian reforms.

thanks for the informative reply! the 2 things I see as problematic for me in that regard are; the "expert recruiter" thing (I have never seen anything invloving recruitment traits, in any general, since I started the campaign (and now I am in 145 BC)), and you say I need to make him the faction heir (did you mean leader?).

AFAIK, someone being a faction heir (or leader) is out of my control. someone dies, and someone new becomes the faction leader, and someone else down the food chain becomes the heir next in line; I have never had imput on that selection process in all the time I have ever played RTW, let alone EB.

what am I missing? thanks in advance.

Expert Recruiter is easy to get, all you need to do is have the FM in a settlement that's regularly churning out troops.

You can choose faction heir on the family tree screen. All you do is click on one of the portraits and click on an icon. Similar to changing your capital.

ah, intersting. funny thing is, I usually am only looking (carefully) at the traits of the "fighting" FMs that I am using for one reason or another. the "governor" ones, I hardly ever look at. bet they are there when I look now! thanks for the tip.

damn. I feel dumb. I never knew that, and, as you can see from my sig, I have hundreds of hours into the game. live and learn!!

Can't change faction leader, but you can change who the heir is. And thus who the future FL will be.
