Default Units in Comparision To The Lore?

Sorry for the misleading thread title, couldn't think of anything else.

Anyway, a question for the team. I've played this mod for a good while now and in my opinion it has the best units of any Total War mod I've played. One thing I wanted to know is, what did you base your units on? I mean are they are they your idea of what the armies of the 4th age would look like or are they taken from the rest of Tolkien's books? And if the latter, which books?

P.S I know very little about the weapons and armor of Middle-earth besides the Dwarves and Elves so thats why I ask

The units are true to the lore as much as possible (and that's why you won't see any plate armour, though there are units with some parts of it). Balbor has done an awesome job with them, that's for sure.

The info used is drawn directly from the Silmarillion, the trilogy etc. There is no information about the 4th Age itself, but in 200 years and given the speed of technological advancements in Middle-earth, armour would not have changed much from what it was at the end of the 3rd Age. That said, we have had to create some things ourselves where there was not enough info available, but we've always tried to stay true to the lore and avoid doing stuff just for the "coolness factor".

Yes, Balbor has done an incredible job. Chain-mail looks so much better then Plate armour in my opinion. I'll never understand why PJ gave them plate armour. He wanted to make them look like the Byzantines but even still, why?

Anyway, again congrats on the units!

I would presume the better refers to how well it protects one from sharp things doing undesired things to one's insides.

How would plate armour protect you against radishes? They're pretty sharp. Can't stand radishes....
