Ultra Slow battle screen - need advise.

Just got Medieval II and am thinking I need to upgrade to a graphics card. Can anyone give me advice on whether the following can be upgraded? What video card should I get based on the below config? Price?

Motherboard - Intel (South Lake) P4 Motherboard R0 (according to Gateway serial #). I found another post where someone with this same board stated there are 3 pci slots and 1 PCI-E x16 slot. My problem is that I am now running graphics on a Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset. I found a link with a picture of the motherboard...

So much information just for upgrading the graphics card?

Since you got a PCI-E slot and your CPU is quite decent you actually have every possibility, depending on you purse. If you got a very small purse you can go with a GeForce 8600 GT or Radeon HD 2600 50 € or more. You'll probably be able to play on highest settings, but if you use huge settings it can become laggy with two full stacks. With a medium purse you can get a Geforce 9600 GT or Radeon HD 3850 (100 - 150 €). You shouldn't have any lag with those video cards, but future games (especially Empires: Total War I think) will easily stress these cards. If you want to be prepared for future games you should buy a Geforce 8800 GTX, Geforce 9800 GTX or Radeon HD 3870 X2 (200 - 250 €).

Edit: What worries me is your RAM, you should think of getting another 1GB RAM stick. The main problem of your mainboard that I can see is that it supports 400 Mhz RAM only. You should maybe get 2 GB RAM of 667 Mhz or 800 Mhz (50 - 70 €), but that's only possible with a new mainboard for another 50 € (+ 30 € installation if you don't dare to do install the mainboard yourself).

Edit #2: I forgot that M2TW doesn't support double core CPU's (I'm still using single core myself). So maybe someone with more knowledge about CPU's can tell you more about your CPU then...

So far, the game speed has been a little jerky on they main screen, and the battle screen is VERY jerky and slow. Otherwise, the play is fine. Could this be from low RAM or the double CPU?

No, at first you need to get some graphics card. Without graphics card you can't expect any game to run smoothly. Once you got some graphics, you can decide to upgrade the RAM. If you upgrade RAM only you probably won't notice any difference. Not until you got some decent video card.

I opened her up and see 2 empty PCI and 1 empty PCI-E 16X slot. Also noticed a PCI-E 1X slot. Looks like all I have to do is buy the card. Thanks for the help.
