    Default Economy issues

I was wondering, again, about a small issue I have with RS 1.5. It seems impossible to get Rome's income into positive figures. I have a theory that, as I have a very large army, too much economical stres is being placed on it, but I have already conquered 2 new cities. At the moment it is around -8000 denarii every turn. This hasn't happened to me before in RTW or in any other mods, and may just require balancing or something - so if the makers of RS 2.0 are reading this, maybe you could do something about this, or if anyone has any tips...

    Cheers

I m sorry but even after conquering all of Gaul I have more then 3.000.000 Denarii so I can't confirm this. I would even say the Roman economy is too good. Arretium gives me 18000 Denarii each turn and Rome 12000!

Just try to build some economical buildings at start an dont raise more armies then you have from the start. The armies you have from beginning should be enough to beat Epirus and the nothern rebel settlements.

I got Arretium to give me 20,000 denarii per turn after I'd taken Greece and Gaul. You need to sort out your economic management.

I build all of the economical buildings possible, that's fine, and also the other settlements are churning out loads of money, but I was just wondering why Rome is dodgy. Maybe it's just that I need to get conquering quicker, and that I have to many armies just hanging around doing absolutely nothing... I can win a battle even if outnumbered 13-1 (true, has happened numerous times) so maybe I am being a bit easy on numbers with myself...

    Cheers though

I have also heard that spreading out your armies can make your ecomony 10 times more effective

If I were you I'd focus my armies, so you need as few as possible. Only pick a fight you know you can win relatively easily and that you know exactly how you can win. Economy in RS really depends on your armies, if you have too many too early then your economy will suffer. Which areas of the map have you taken?

Northern Itlay so far, but it's early days.

I don't have enough military support to attack the south yet. I will soon.

How many armies do you have?

erm... around one whole one in each city, and 2 outside settlements.

Er... maybe you don't need that much of a garrison in each of your cities. I mean, Rome's your capital, so you shouldn't have too much of a public disorder problem in Italy. You can probably dismiss most of your troops or move them to the South and conquer the place.

There's a reason the city of Rome is effectively an economic sinkhole - because it was! it couldn't feed itself, so grain had to be imported from Africa and Egypt, and pretty much everything else had to be imported from somewhere else too. Rome didn't MAKE much of anything, really. It just sucked in resources from the rest of the Empire to feed a consumer society... not unlike modern cities.

Disband everything, use things like Velite to garrison and jsut have one army for each front, or you could upload the saved game and i can have a look at it if you want?

Like the others have said, you have waaaaaaaaaay too many armies there. Realistically you only need 1 governor in order to keep your Italian cities to heel, use the units you have now to defend and expand. I did the same thing as you in my first game of RTW and I wondered why I was so poor

OK, I'll load the game, I have altered it a little since I first posted this but have tried not to conquer any more land etc that might affect it. I'll put a link in once it's done...

Oh, and if your wondering why it's really bad, then I was trying new battle strategies and other things, I was using ground rules, but I was going to forget about them until I sorted out Rome.

BTW, rory o'kane, that was quite an interesting little fact, I didn't know that...

The starting armies you have in your cities, are really more than enough, you don't need to recruit anything.Well except that Light Roman Infantry to garrison your cities....

nah, i like making full stacks - and not by combining armies from cities, because then you get the wrong ratio of H/P/T/V
