Default Would the world be a better place without Britain and France?

    Consider:

    1) Rampant British and French colonialism and imperialism in the recent past.

    2) Failure of Britain and France to grant the Arabs freedom in the Middle East as they had promised the Arabs, which Arabs helped the British and French fight the Ottoman Empire during WWI.

    3) During the period after WWI into the 1950's, Britain and France pumped much of the oil out of Jordan and Iran and the people of those lands recieved hardly any windfalls from the oil profits.

    4) The Britiah initiation of the plot to overthrow Mosadech of democratic Iran in order to continue to monopolize Iran's oil, and subsequently the USA's approval and complicity in the plot.

Interesting, and these acts have much to do with the problems in the Middle East today and the attitude of many of the people there.

Sigh do we really need this? Just because there is a dumb thread about the US do we really need to expand it with copycats? It just going to be filled by people pointing and going "ha see americans are all blind nationalist" (of course it will be the same people who voted yes on the america thread). This stuff is just unhelpful and there really isnt anything to discuss other then flag waving and flag bashing. The few good, quality posts will be overshadowed and quickly overwhelmed by the idiocy.

The world would be better without threads like this or the American one and the people who create them. Giveme that poll and Ill vote for THAT.

Sigh, I believe it is a very appropriate subject and is still affecting the world today, which it is.

A world without Brits would be a world we arent having this convo since the US wouldnt exist. This is why threads like this are dumb because people focus on the most simplistic nonsense and forget the big picture. Think of everything the Brits and France have added to this world that makes it better, culturally, scientific etc this is the same exact naive nonsense missed in the America thread where people focus soley on negative aspects or time periods. Take 5 minutes and think of everything GOOD contributed to the human race to come out of France, England and the US...if after that anyone can honestly say the world would be better off without them even with all their flaws, all their mistakes and sometimes idiotic behavior then well Im sorry that person is a fool. Main flaw is people make no distinction between a particular government in power vs the entire history of the country. The world would indeed be better without a US Bush Presidency just as the world would have been better without a British Chamberlain lead government. Its like saying the world would be better off without Germany based soley on Hitler's little stint or Russia cause of Stalin etc etc.

No, the world would not be a better place without Britain or France. They have made almost as much contribution to Western Civilization as Rome itself--both militarily and culturally. Without them, World War 2 might have gone much worse. Of course the USA would still have beaten Germany, but it would have been a lot harder. Britain and France ought to be proud of their history. As an American, I recognize and appreciate the contribution that both countries have made to my culture and my freedom.

But it saddens me to see how Britain and France have been taken over by socialism and third-world immigration. If Britain and France do not do something about Muslims immigrating into their countries and refusing to assimilate into the mainstream culture, within decades those countries will cease to exist as we know them. It will be a sad day when that happens.

However, the British and French involvement in the Middle East is very recent and many people in the Middle East still resent that. I don't blame them. I know Christian Chaldeans that know the whole story and they aren't fond of what the British and French did and did not do.

    Very recent events.

    Chris
how about italian involvement in north africa.. perhaps we should be better off without them too... given all the problems with libya and somalia and ethiopia.

Well, you forget about the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam (New York City) and the Swedish colony here in the New World. So, we would be speaking Dutch and/or Swedish rather than English or French. We would also have more Smorgasboards and better mass produced beer. Plus we might still have had the Russian settlers in Alaska eventually joining in, not to mention all the Spainiards and Mexicans in the southwest and all the Native Americans.

It would have been nice to have no British and to have Dutch and Swedes and Poles instead.

NBA, ooof. The Pistons got knocked out of the playoffs again for he 6th year in a row, well at least they can be considered the number 3 or 4 team, and the Redwings won the Stanley Cup (hockey).

Baseball for me, the Tigers are a rollacoaster this year. I like and played Soccer years ago. Canada is s great place BTW.

Good food etc. is always good.

I forgot the Polish glassmakers at Jamestown, and there might have been some Poles in New Amsterdam and the Swedish colony, probably the Swedish colony.

But we have no idea how widespread Dutch and Swedish (which was very limited anyway) colonisation would've become and how they would've tackled the Native American population. Russia was only in Alaska for furs and not colonisation.

The most likely outcome would be Spanish domination of North America as well as the South.

Yeah i agree. I mean people always talk about how it would have been better if Israel never existed, But your processing(whoops)operating system was probably made there. And your microprocessor.

Since we have no idea how a world would be without Britain or France this cannot be answered.

To be honest about colonianism if it wasn't Britain and France it would be some other European. And if it wasn't some European it would be some Asian power...
Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they are in good company.
