    Icon5 Turning off the watchtowers??

I noticed a strange thing I hadnt noticed before.

I usually stud my territory with watch towers so I can keep track of all the comings and goings. I have noticed that bad things hid in the shadows, and hate surprises!

Anyway, I was keeping an eye on a half stack of enemy moving towards one of my cities when suddenly the area around the tower went dark and the army disappeared!

I sent in a spy and sure enough the baddies were hiding right beside the tower! I guess they were blocking the riders or something?

    Is this common?

Ya, that's normal. If someone stands on a tower they don't show you whats going on.

They captured your tower : )

I believe you can do the same to enemy towers

Bandits are usually the culprits. So, if you see a dark tower, send out the troops, because some kind of bad guy is out there lying in wait for your cattle and/or women.

and the same goes for enemy towers, although if you stand on another factions tower your relationsahip with them can turn in to war!

That might be a good way to get a Christian faction to declare war on you (avoiding issues with pope?)

I dont think it matters if you stand on an enemies tower, they "see" more than we do anyways. Although they still build them.

How does the enemy's "seeing" work? They seem to have an uncanny grasp of exactly where my low-skill merchants are, yet they can still blunder into my ambushes. I've never understood what FOW rules govern them (the AI).

I always assume the AI knows where settlements are and such. They head str8 for them. And where to put their merchants to make the most money.

The pope may ask you to get off the land though.
Or it may count as self-defense.
