    Default Confused by Difficulty

    I went ahead and put my newest campaign battle difficulty on VH...swayed by what the FAQ up above this thread said, that it increased the intelligence of the battle AI but left stats alone...

    However, its pretty obvious that this isn't the case...units of my spear militia are losing to peasants (and not just because of the difference in unit size, they're actually taking more casualties...on my own walls, no less) and my units are not hesitating to turn tail and run even when I'm winning.

    So this campaign has seemingly been ruined by this misinformation. I don't want my uber units getting slaughtered by something that looks like it was fresh from the farm plow...it may be a challenge, but its just silly.

    So, finally, my question - can you change the battle difficulty mid-through a campaign?

    Unfortunately, no. However, I do think that this might not be because of the difficulty. In seiges, peasants are notorious for being uber, because when they get boxed in, they just swarm over their enemies due to sheer numbers and due to the fact that they are isolated from any negative morale sources. It's probably just the circumstances in which the battle was fought.

    No, I dont think so. Similar thing happened to me and I had to start campaign all over again. It was in RTW:BI.

    you can change it there is this program you download and change your savegames but I forgot the name of it now....

    do you speak of the MedManager?
    it lets you change stuff, but i have never gotten it to work...

    Well if I was mistaken, then I have no problem finishing this campaign.

    However, just to be sure, I did a custom battle on VH settings, my peasants were upgraded 1 armor and 1 experience against the AI's vanilla peasants, and my peasants lost handily. So apparently some stat enhancement for the AI is going on

    I think the AI might get morale bonuses or something. If it's an attack/defense bonus, it's nowhere near as significant as in RTW. Playing RTW on VH makes me incredibly irate as my Hastati can get routed in 3 seconds by Warband in an isolated 1v1 situation. With a good general in M2TW, you can win these isolated 1v1 infantry battles on VH with inferior troops.

    Two quick points:
    1) As difficulty goes up, the AI gains morale

    2) Peasants move/animate much quicker than other units. Add armor to the onther units and they also move slower. Use two hands to wield a weapon and slower again.

    Watch the peasants work over a noble bodyguard up close. A cav will be swinging a sword and toasting a peasand ant two other peasants will be stabbing the horse three times in the same time frame. With those odds, the cav unit will be going down.

    Do you have a patched game, because only version 1.2 has fixed the shield bug (= shield value subtracted of defense value).

    According to the experts the AI has always the same moral and fatigue. Your own units will have the same fatigue and morale as the AI's on VH.
    Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.
