Formerly Tyrtaeus
Mine does that but I just click ok and save as normal. It shouldn't stop you saving. I think it happens when you have mipmaps loaded.
If you get that message it means your doing it right.
But totally ignore it. It has no effect whatsoever.
Good luck with your skinning though.
Unless I`m wrong that happens when you edit a texture that already had mipmaps. If after you open the texture you hit ctrl-L or just L(i forgot which one) you`ll get a panel with the layers(mipmaps in your case). You should delete those and leave just the first image before editing the texture. And if you do this you`ll not get that message anymore. Don`t forget to check the generate mipmaps option when you save the texture though.
Yea, but dosn't really affect your skin if you do that or not.
If you ignore it you won't get the mipmaps (which are important).
It all sometimes happens if you .tga layer is slightly bigger than the 256x256 or 512x512 image boundaries.
BTW you know that you can save as an .xcf file which maintains layers so you can edit more easily and go back and make changes?
Hit ctrl+L. This open the layers box. Delete all the layers (mipmaps), leaving the first one marked 'main surface'.
Next click 'save as'. Name the file as a tga.dds file, i.e. "unit_spartan_hoplite.tga.dds".
Press save. A 'Save as DDS' box comes up. Set 'compression' to BC3/DTX5. Keep 'format' to default. And unclick the 'generate minimaps' box.
Finally you should open another small program, DXTBmp, which can be downloaded free off the internet. Open your saved file using DXTBmp and resave it. This will generate a fresh batch of minimaps.
Why in heaven would you use DXTBmp and Gimp when Gimp has a dds plugin and it`s perfectly capable of saving the file and generating mipmaps. Plus, textures of 256x256 for example which have mipmaps generated with DXTB only have 7 layers instead of 9 as in vanilla and as with Gimp.

Thor and Tone are correct. Last time I did this was at least a couple of years ago when there was a problem generating mipmaps with Gimp for some reason. There were a couple of threads about it on this site at the time. I just checked with a current version and it works just fine.
