Sorry for this stupid question.. How do I do that in 3d studio max? I know I can import new animation to override the existing one, so animation reset must be doable - I just can't find it

Set the unit to the first position of the animation you've already imported and import another, I don't think you can remove an animation. Also make sure you export the unit before you import any animation otherwise you could export a bugged unit and you won't be able to re-import that model..
Oh that's exactly what I want to avoid....
I cannot know what model fixes should be made until I import the animation.
Now I'm using an "empty" animation (created by exporting a model as animation) to be imported after I add fixes - so I can record the correct changes (rotate angles and movement ranges etc). But since I don't know how remove animation - assume the "empty" animation is also bugged - I have to reset and re-import the model and re-do all of the changes I recored in order to export them.
It's a lot of work and wouldn't be needed at all if there is just one "remove animation" button

There isn't..sorry.It's a lot of work and wouldn't be needed at all if there is just one "remove animation" button
In general if a unit exports ok then there isn't any bugs, on the odd occasion you have a lose vertical (causes a flaring effect in game) , that doesn't show in max anyway, the only other bug I can think of is when the faces reverse, if that happens you buggered, unless you can find out how to fix that, I think Publius knows..
Dont know if this would work but you could give it a try.
Try selecting the model (the whole thing weapons and all) then use the save selected option in the file menu. I wouldnt think that would save the animation aswell. You may have to redo the weighting but thats easy enough.
Hope this works![]()
Ah, but I have seen many problems after the unit models are combined with animations.
For instance, if a spearman's hands cannot fully grab the spear due to changes by the animation, it is a bug.
or, if the spear isn't pointed forward at the correct angle after applying the desired animation, it is a bug
or, if he carries the spear on his shoulder, but the spear is too high (floating) or too low (into his body), it is a bug.
There are many many others... They happen to me because I'm changing many RTR models to use EB animations, which they're not designed for.

Ah, well technically there not bugs as the model will still work, just not as you want it..![]()
Yes. That's why I need a simple "reset" animation button.

OK, import any .cas model - now use the vercingetorix script to export the animation - call this "Default" or something.
Now go to the model you were working on before that's stuck in some strange pose and import your "Default" animation.......
and.....daaadaaaa!
