this is not a rant, but a question
how do you get your generals to become utterly insane? im thinking of trying inbreeding, but idk how it will work out
this is without cheating btw

i think the insanity trait is more of a random thing that inbreeding but i do know for a fact that if you put a family member with the insanity trait as far away from the capital as possible the trait gets worse. Maybe you just need to send him far far away.![]()
ya send him to exile in africa and send him into suicide missions where he just barely gets away
Inbreeding has no affect on the traits of offspring when they come of age.
The triggers for insanity in the unmodded game are:
1) Random chance at birth.
2) Extra random chance at birth if father has Arse (gay) trait.
3) Chance when suffering an assassination attempt AND has rank 3 or higher of the Paranoia trait (called Paranoid and Completely Paranoid).
4) Chance every turn of the Insanity trait "worsening" if the character already has it.
Ranks of the Insane trait are:
1) Dysfunctional.
2) Quite Mad.
3) Utterly Insane.
I got such an insane general to be my heir. And even worse he managed to pick a very bad wife:

The trait is hereditary as well, iirc. A whole family line in my family tree was chronically insane.
EDIT: Loaded up that save game, and noticed that the start of that family line was a mission where one of my family members asked to marry one of my princesses. So, could be some merit to your inbreeding idea.
Yes, I had such missions in the past too. I actually refused one. A general 57 years old wanted to marry a 23 years old princess with an amazing number of 8 hearts. It was the best princess I ever had. No bad traits or retinues at all. I used her to marry a HRE general. The 57 years old general died the next turn, so there was no way the princess could reach him in time anyway.![]()
well, in my SS campaign, ive got several yung-uns coming up and two young, sweet, princesses! lets see what happens to those backstabber when i mess up their children! MWAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

I concur with this one, also I think it's a quite random thing ( or I can't see any obvious reason for developing such a trait ). I don't think that inbreeding has anything with it, I marry all my decently charming (+2 hearts ) princesses to male family members and that insanity thing rarely occurs with their offsprings.Chance when suffering an assassination attempt AND has rank 3 or higher of the Paranoia trait (called Paranoid and Completely Paranoid).
I heard that generals with that trait give some very interesting and crazy speeches before a battle. Is That True?:hmmm:

I think so, probably the Milanese generals do the "Snake Speech", though I don't know if that is because of insanity or something else.

Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.
Tosa will be missed.
The "Hates X Faction" trait line works in the same way, I think (as long as you're fighting against that particular faction). ie, I've seen English generals with "Dislikes France" calling them codpiece fondlers, arse weasels, etc...whenever I fought them.If I remember correct it is the strong /foul language line of traits. I had an English faction heir that had that trait. He gave very good (read hilarious) speeches.
Additionally, if you get a general with a level 3 of the Deranged or Insane traits, he gets the special insanity epithet after his name. So, for example, a general of mine in a Milanese campaign by the name of 'Banchello Pensotti' was known as 'Banchello the Mad'. (And what a fine general he was, too. What *lively* speeches he gave...)
