    Chapter Three: The Western Mediterranean
    Part Five: Carthago

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Ambon wanted to put some more pressure on the Carthaginians. Their armies melt by the sight of our men, and until now our campaign to their capital went smooth. Carthago once was the center of a great trading empire. They controlled the western Mediterranean, the ambition that Amon now also had. Because Carthage lost most partners their trade decreased. They were unable to keep the lands far away because their source of money was gone. Our people used this to make Iberia a great empire. Now it was just a matter of pushing to Carthage to end the fighting.

However, there was an army of Carthaginians that besieged one of their former cities, Hippo Regius. Our garrison, not afraid of them, waited for them to attack using the advantage of defending.

Their artillery destroyed our walls and their soldiers moved in

When they saw our men they were confused and turned their back to our missiles.

More of them came and we waited for their charge

After a long fight lots of men lied dead in our streets. Mostly Carthaginian blood.

We kept our city and so we improved our presence in Africa

However, more to the east there was another enemy army. Their way back home was cut by our army that took Hippo Regius so they decided to besiege Saldae. Mikel, who was near the city, took his army to end the siege

Their soldiers charged us while being fires at by our missiles

    After that our weapons clashed

After killing some elephants the others ran amok, destroying the enemy battle lines. Their army retreated

Lots of them got away and lots of our men died, but still it was a victory

Mikel moved on, ready to take another settlement

From multiple sides the Numidian mercenaries fired at the enemy.

Mikel and his bodyguard met the enemy on the battlefield

The Numidians were out of ammo and charged some camelriders

This army was crushes, but another army was already marching in

The enemy general charged some unprotected men

But Mikel came and killed him

    Now their men gave up

Mikel didn't rest, and took his army to another settlement

As usual the Numidians were sent to the elephants

The army contained mostly of skirmishers. The brave Iberian skirmishers were far more protected and charges

The Carthaginians also hired some Numidian cavalry. Our and theirs didn't think about the fact they had the same blood and stayed professional, firing missiles

The enemy general attacked some of our infantry, but Mikel came to kill him

He failed. The enemy general routed and Mikel was unable to kill him

But we clearly won the battle

The city was now unprotected and Mikel was able to walk in it without resistance

A lot of fighting in the dessert, but in the north the Germans still wanted us to stay away. One of their armies ended a siege and attacked. Aingeru and his army were just on time to help defending

The garrison waited on the hill

While Aingeru and his men came from the backside

He was a little late, the battle was already going on

He was just in time to kill the last enemies

Gergori was on his way to Carthago when he met an enemy army. He decided to attack

The enemy was under our heavy fire

Just one unit stayed and kept fighting us. Even when almost surrounded it kept fighting.

When almost all of that unit died they gave up

Another army desperately attacked us trying to prevent us from getting to Carthago

Their artillery tried to hit us. They failed and killed two of their own elephants

Their general tried to attack in our back

Our Numidians, light on armor but brave fighters, killed him

We killed as many enemies as possible

Jakome attacked a barely protected German settlement

He used some machines to break the walls that we just discovered. We were able to rebuild the artillery from the Carthaginians and were planning to use these for some sieges

Just a few men protected the city, but their axes killed lots of our men

After a long fight they gave up

But we lost too many soldiers in this battle

The city south of it was the next target

    Some men secured the towers

Their soldiers were waiting in a strange formation

One of our soldiers was going for all honor

    We captured the settlement

In the mean time Gergori arrived at Carthage and launched the attack

He also used those new artillery

The mighty city, once ruled by wealthy merchant with the money to buy armies armies to protect it, was now defended by just two units. We fired our first missiles

After some fighting the enemy gave up

Our big enemy who once controlled the southern part of our homeland was now as good as destroyed. Just some settlements in the south still acted in the name of the Carthaginian empire

The city of Carthago was by far the most wealthy one of our kingdom

just after the conquest of Carthago Ambon lost his life. He died peacefully.

Txanton, one of the best generals of the campaign against Carthage, the first son of Ambon, was now faction leader

    Chapter Four: Italia
    Part One: First steps
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Carthage was destroyed. We controlled the waters of the western Mediterranean for years already, but now we also destroyed one of the two major rival powers in the area. Just one left before we could truly call ourselves the owner of the western Mediterranean. The Romans were strange people. They had possibilities to become a big power but they rather stay on their own peninsula. Their armies are one of the most advanced of the time and their numbers were astonishing for the small territory they had to defend. Arms keep peace is probably what they thought. But then they didn't know they rising power of us Iberians. Txanton, still mourning his fathers dead, already made plans for a war with Rome. But there were some things that needed to be handled first. Some German settlement were also on the wish list of Txanton. He never been in the northern part of the empire, but he knew enough about the barbarian Germans who keep invading our territory. Like his father he thought the best defense was the attack. Avaros was first send to one of our settlements which was under siege to free it

Avaros and the garrison led by Zigor moved to the enemy

Zigor ordered his cavalry to attack the enemy cavalry

Avaros was near the enemy lines

    His cavalry also attacked

    And defeated the enemy cavalry

And the infantry was fighting also

After a long fight some enemies finally gave up

And the enemy general lied dead next to many of his men

The battle was over. Just some small resistance was left, but it didn't last long

There were still quite a lot of armies marching around Carthage thinking to retake their capital. One of our armies was send to take care of those.

Gergori moved his army south to the last settlements that belonged to Carthage. They were now still defended by the Carthaginian people

Our artillery took care of their walls

And the Numidians took care of the elephants

The last enemies were shot from the walls

Now only the square has to be taken, defended by the enemy general. He got killed by the Numidians

    A clear victory for Gergori

Our most northern settlement was going to end a German siege

Some enemy soldiers couldn't wait and attacked.. and were killed

After that the rest of the enemy army retreated

Avaros attacked a badly defended German settlement

    Not much fighting

But later a German army came to retake it. Luckily one of our armies, led by a captain, came to prevent this

Our artillery fired at the enemy troops

Their slinger warband charged, a foolish action

    After that our army attacked

    The enemy routed

Gergori was going to take another settlement in Africa

The Numidians fired at the enemy on the walls from the backside. An easy target

    Our infantry attacked their general

When he was killed the battle was over and the settlement ours

Zigor was attacked by another Germanic army

    We waited on a hill

They took too many losses before they arrived and soon they routed

Txantons first son, Megaravicos, was old enough to lead an army. Txanton wanted the faction heir to go to the east, preparing troops for the invasion of Italia

While Zigor was besieging a Germanic settlement he was attacked. The enemy garrison joined the battle. Zigor wanted to kill them all on the field so the city would be unprotected

The enemy was ready to attack

    But we easily defeated them

    Another settlement in our hands

It was becoming hot around Tulisurgium. Lots of enemies gathered to prevent us from taking the settlement. Avaros wasn't intimidated and attacked them with the help of a captain led army

While readying up his troops an enemy army appeared behind him. He decided to take that one out first and turned his lines

The reinforcements were defeated by the biggest of the Germanic armies

Because of this Avaros decided to fight his way through the small enemy forced to get away. He would face the large army later

Three of the four Germanic armies were almost destroyed, but the biggest was still walking around

Just two settlements were to be taken in Africa. One was about to fall.

The walls were secured and skirmishers fired missiles from them

    The enemy general attacked

And in the meantime we took their artillery out

Palben, a young general with a future, was ready for his first battle. A Germanic army attacked him while he moved an army near the border

    Our troops waited steady

The enemy general was slain be our warriors

    After that the enemy routed

A very nice first battle for Palben

Another battle was to be fought in the North

The armies moved to each other

Gartzis army had an easy fight

When the last enemies were killed Avaros was also winning his battle

    Another vicotry in Germania!

In Africa all preparations were done. It was time for the invasion! Txanton ordered two large armies to land on Sicily. Another small army besieged the third settlement to prevent it from sending reinforcements
The long awaited war finally came! Txanton's hunger for more territory wasn't frightened off by the large Roman armies. In a blitz the whole island of Sicily would be taken over

The Roman armies were all in the North at the Gallic border. They didn't expect this invasion. This would give us time to prepare for the real confrontation. Txanton wasn't sure how the Romans would react. If they would send all armies we probably wouldn't hold out for long on the island

How will this continue? Will the Iberians be able to defeat 10 full stacks of Romans? See it in the next update!

It's hard to keep updating, I prefer to play I could do the next update now already if I had time, because I played a lot more turns. But you'll have to wait for it

Holy crap, look at all those Roman armies... Your gonna need reinforcements... And a bit of luck.

I noticed the sparkling Cathaginian general while you took Sabratha, that was funny.

That first battle against the Germans was pretty cool. I hope you update on your Roman war soon. I hope you didn't bite off more than you can chew. Those are alot of legionaries. Good luck.

Great update, King Arthuro. Great pics! Your Iberians look unstoppable. Looking forward to hearing about your adventures in Italy.

I suppose, your main problem in Italy will be troops supply. You will not be able to use Roman barracks, and Romans do not build much of auxiliary barracks. So, keep bringing reinforcements in.
Next, you better bring all the cavalry you can get: Roman armies are commonly weak on cavalry and this can give you an edge in many battles. Btw, what's going on in Sicily? I guess you prepare an invasion of Sicily as well?

    Thanks everybody!
ME, thanks for the advice. I already played a lot of turn in the war with Italia and the supply of troops indeed is a problem. And like you see on the second last picture Sicily is were the war starts! Because all Roman troops are in the North.

Thats my usual plan to kill the Romans, attack Sicily and S. Italy while there troops are in the north. Unfortunately your Romans are weird and just keep there stacks sitting around gathering dust.... They must be in debt up to there eyeballs.

    Chapter Four: Italia
    Part Two: Taking Sicily
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

The time has come. The Iberians started the war against the last rival power in the Western Mediterranean. The Romans have large and strong armies, but their bureaucratic Senate never came up with a good plan to use them. Now we conquered more and more territory it's inevitable for us to invade Italia and face the Roman armies. We started with the invasion of Sicily. The plan used to be to launch an invasion from the North at the same time, but because the Germanic armies keep invading us their we postponed that operation. So now 2 large Iberian armies are about to take Sicily in a blitz. With our artillery we will take Syracuse and Messana directly and a small army besieges Lilybaeum to prevent it from training reinforcements.

First Mikel the Conqueror, who got this name from it's famous battles in Africa, will take Syracuse.

It was badly defended, our army got inside the walls without losses. Now we waited for a unit of Hastati that walked in our rain of missiles

After it was defeated we had to attack their heavy legionary cohort.

    Those are touch fighters

But of course we killed them and took Syracuse

    Now Messana was assaulted

Again we took their walls down with artillery and moved our army in without losses. Now we headed to the center

The settlement was defended by some Greek hoplites hired by the Romans. They killed many of us

But it was another settlement taken by our army

After these victories one of the artillery units was send to the last Roman settlement on Sicily and we attacked

    An easy victory

In the North their we still fought the Germans. We attacked another settlement to weaken their attacks

    We fought our way in

And attacked a unit of their feared archers

After that we defeated the remaining forces and occupied the settlement

A little more to the south a large battle had to be fought

We attacked from two sides so their army had to split up

The first enemy units who charged at us were welcomed by our missiles

Soon some of their men lost faith and routed

We made sure the fleeing men were getting killed

But still lots of them got away, to prepare the next attack

In Africa Kemen was attacked while besieging the last Carthaginian settlement

Two armies attacked. The first one never got close enough to attack us.

    We killed almost all soldiers

But now the real battle had to be fought. The large enemy army approached. The last Carthaginian soldiers.

Our artillery put fear in their hearts

But one of the Onagers was broken

    First their cavalry attacked

    But they routed soon

We killed most of the Royal family members

All their soldiers routed. Now we killed the fleeing Carthaginians

The last real fight against the Carthaginians was one to remember

The last member of the Carthaginian Royal family got away and was hiding in the settlement. We were coming to kill him

He turned his back to us while the arrows that would kill him were already in the air. He didn't want to look at the people that would rule his people. He wasn't going to surrender after seeing his family getting slaughtered the day before

This faction was now history. From now on the Carthaginian merchants would be part of the Iberian kingdom.

In the meantime the Romans were reacting on our invasion. They moved all their armies south. Txanton didn't expect this. He thought the Romans would want to keep their northern border protected, but they wanted us out of their territory as soon as possible. It seemed impossible to survive this military beast

Megaravicos, the faction heir, was heading for Croton when he was assaulted by an unseen Roman army. Noone knew they had an army this close to us

They moved to us while some Numidians shot at them

    Just like our artillery did

While our infantry fought their infantry Megaravicos ordered our cavalry to attack Roman Principes on our flank

After a while all our soldiers suddenly gave up

Just after that our Onagers killed the enemy captain

But the battle was decided. We were defeated in a bloody battle. Megaravicos was killed while retreating. It was clear those Romans were strong fighters

The Germans however were easy to defeat. Another settlement was being assaulted

After taking down the walls our archer fired at the enemy

    We fought their infantry

Their captain tried to get away, but our men were faster and killed him

Now we just had to kill their last soldiers

Suddenly a Gallic army appeared in our territory. We didn't fight them for a long time, keeping them between us and the Romans. Now they took their weapons again and moved to us. Zigor attacked them

    They waited on a hill

After moving in a circle around them they charged

But soon they gave up. Our superior infantry killed too many of them

The floor was filled with Gallic bodies

Another Germanic settlement to be taken

    An easy battle

Because the new war we suddenly had big economic problems. We lost an important trade partner and the new soldiers we trained cost a lot of money. But we knew it would be temporary

We took another settlement Germania. (screen lost) The last settlement we would attack for a while

Now we had chances to move two large armies through Gallic territory to attack the Romans in their back. This attack wasn't meant to be a real invasion. It was just a way to take away some Roman armies from the south

The next battle would be decisive. The Romans besieged Messana. If we would be able to defeat them it meant that we would be able to stay there for a while, but if we would be beaten it meant the whole invasion failed

While they approached our trusted Numidians fired at them

Our reinforcements arrived just on time

We brought some elephants from Africa. Now it was time to test these animals in battle. We always killed them easily with our Numidians but the Romans didn't have a lot of skirmishers

Soon the animals frightened the Romans. This meant we had a big advantage in this battle

The enemy started routing and it was a great victory for us!

However, Mikolas, who led the reinforcements army, was killed

The armies in north Italia who besieged Arretium were attacked

Our armies stayed together, waiting for the enemy

Missiles filled the sky. Both Iberian and Romand missiles

The real battle was about to begin

After a while some Romans routed

After that we were able to get behind another unit of Romans

In the attempt to kill the enemy general

    our own general died

But now the last Romans were completely surrounded. Most people would give up fighting when in such position. Not Romans

But still it was clear we won the battle

    And we took the settlement

Hopefully this would take away the Roman attention from the south. We were building up our own base in Sicily so we could soon provide some simple soldiers there, but some more time was needed so the Romans had to be distracted.

The war had just started. No one was able to tell the outcome. But Txanton wasn;t going to give up soon.

Excellent update King Arthuro! Especially the Arretium battle. Heavy Spearmen and Heavy Scutarii do well against those Romans. Your empire is doing quite well.

I would rep you for such a great job, but it says I have to spread it around first. Tough loss in that first big battle against the Romans, but you've since destroyed a couple of there stacks, so kudos. I see some tough battles ahead though, better bring some reinforcements.
