    Default Too Much Money?

Sorry if this has been posted before...

Is it just me, or is there WAY too much money in RS? Playing on 0-turn recruitment, Hard difficulty, I find it nearly impossible to keep my treasury under 100,000.

I added the following two lines to all the government buildings:
    taxable_income_bonus bonus -50
    trade_base_income_bonus bonus -2
and I still found myself rolling in cash.

    Am I missing sommething?

Depends on the territories you have conquered e.g greece povides high income whilst africa is less prosperous

RS runs on a system whereby the further you expand, the less money you will earn and so it will be more difficult.

    How far have you gotten?

You may have alot of money at the start but you will wish you have even more in the late game. In my roman campaign I'm 300,000 in debt and I have an empire to control and a army. So I don't have enough money to do anything. Save all that money so you can use it for later.

Trust me YOU WILL NEED IT

As century said, once you start to expand your empire the costs begin to increase considerably. SO my advice is develop your economy before you decide to attack every neigbour you have

That is right. And pushing them out in a couple of turns and you find yourself gasping for some rich cities to rape and pillage.

If you play very conservatively, you can end up with a lot of cash, but if you're even of average aggression, you should run into problems. My last game had Rome making around 250k a turn, and I always swore loudly when I only got through 2/3 of my cities with buildings, and barely could afford any units.

Have you gotten deep into France/Germany/Poland/Africa/Middle East (past Byzantium)? The game takes a decided turn for the worse when you try to push far into those lands... I had EXTREME financial difficulties, and I use every trick I could (no house rules, exploit AI weaknesses) to get enough money to keep up a large one-front war... God help you if you get hit by 2 factions, just hide on the rivers somewhere and hope for the best.

Africa is by far the worst place to try and take. It offers no money and saps cash like you wont believe!

    I can vouch for that.

It drains your armies as well. Due to rebellions popping up and in return it barely gives you any money in return

Surely, you mean North Africa and not Africa?

I guess the secret is to build up the trade between the settlements on the coast and build up the inland settlements. Make sure that you have decent governors generated (if you've built up you academies in at least one settlement you should get decent governors) and sent out to look after the settlements.

In my Carthage campaign the trade between settlements is decent. I am not awash with cash - although after the Greeks attacked me I was able to take Crete, Rhodes and then the remaining settlements on the mainland. The trade between my allies the Ptolemaics in Asia Minor and my settlements should be good for my economy.

I've not been generating the income that I've had in other campaigns. Maybe, the benefits of the trade in the Agean haven't been felt yet.

in my roman campagin i just started with name legions ive conquered north africa, half of spain, All Greece and parts of Dacia and a foothold in Asia Minor and my econonmy was booming at about 300,000 untill my half-completed ivasion of Gaul. It now stays at about 150,000 every turn so i had to disband all wasteful units (including 2 auxilla legions). In Africa isnt too bad Carthage and cities around it are ok its only to the west cities the ones near spain that keep rebelling.

I haven't got any problems with my money.
I'm already building named legions for about 10 years and I've conquered Africa, Greece, 1/2 Spain, 1/2 Germany and I've got legions standing everywhere. And still I've got at least 950.000 denarii. And I don't use any cheats.

But I've found a nice thing to do with it. Every time a eastern faction is losing I give them about 200.000 denarii and watch them come back with 10 full stacks

Well, at the moment, i have conquered: greece, 1/2 spain, the coast of Africa, Dacia, 1/4 gaul and i am in the possesion of quite a large number of named legions, however i have 9.800.000 denari? i make more money a turn then i can spend

Well yes i did exterminate some, guess i should stop doing so but I can't imagine that only by exterminating a few cities, you are capable of achieving such a vast treasury. I guess i will just recruit a few more legions and see what happens
