Jaguar - Eagle Warriors Better than Conquistadores?
Conquistadores in a man to man fight against either Eagle or Jaguar warriors lose. Isn't it that only spear warriors can defeat cavalry? Do you think CA flubbed this one to maintain balance?

The strength of the Spanish cavalry is in the charge, and in their speed which allows them to isolate enemy units and rout them almost instantly. If you're losing against Eagle/Jaguar warriors it's because you aren't bothering to micro-manage the fight and (possibly) because the warriors have a really good general behind them.
In one battle my Spanish force (very hard battle difficulty) was sandwiched between two full Mayan stacks which quickly routed my mercenaries, leaving me with a general and two conquistadores which proceeded to destroy the entire combined Mayan army (with some small help from rallying mercs). Once the native forces get tired from chasing down your cavalry they rout surprisingly quickly, I found the most dangerous units were the archers and javelin throwers.
Playing as the Mayans I saw any unit that wasn't a spearman (including a veteran faction leader's bodyguard) get absolutely annihilated by Spanish cavalry even when the cavalry was heavily outnumbered - the faction leader's full unit got destroyed by 8 conquistadores... Spearmen generally needed to outnumber cavalry by 3:2 (unitwise) to win comfortably and that's with the AI leaving the cavalry in hand to hand melee most of the time.

eggthief: I fought them on the Hard difficulty level.
Strom: Interesting post. Yes, I didn't micromanage the Conquistador fights, I expected them to mow the warriors down. I recall the Conquistadors losing their bouts against the warriors regardless of whether the Indians had a strong commander or a mere captain. Historical-wise the Conquistadors had a tough time against the Indians, but I don't think it was as one-sided in favor of the Indians as the game presents.

well they got a huge morale base as it is, but they cant be broken if u put it any higher than medium, which will make them fight to the death whereas your conquistadors have way less morale and actually flee at one point.
I'd say u should redo this battle on medium difficulty with micro-managing and see if it works out better.

well my opinion, is that all of the aztecs generally get mowed down by any army (hell even the Russians hehe jk) they have no armor and no strategic defense throughout their "empire"
