to catch a fish,so juicy sweeeeeet
Do you use RR? (question relevant since it restricts cavalry recruiting)
This would seem to beg the question of how much is "enough" cavalry.
I use RR and seem to average about 15-20% of a typical stack on horses (half of that light, the rest generals)
I would guess that the ai is about the same.
How would this compare to an actual army of the period?
Most movies seem to portray medieval armies as pretty cavalry heavy, but I suspect this because they are much sexier on screen than hordes of filthy peasant militia.
Anyone have any info on actual horse/foot ratios?
Since most medieval accounts over-emphasized cavalry, it should be no more than 25%.
In my experience it differce for the diffrent factions some use a lot oter not that much.
I don't use RR, and the French had up to 50% mailed knights in some stacks.
Okay, 1 out of 4, but the others had 25 or so % calv. I switched campaigns to Venice as I wanted a change from England.
Cavalry was expensive to maintain, so it obviously was only a minor part of the army held by the more wealthy.
Danes just owned my Novgorod full stack consisted mainly of druzhinas and dism. boyar sons with their full stack of norse swordsman and norse axemen, but their 3 feudal and 1 chivalric knight made all the difference!![]()
I'm fighting as mongols vs Seljuks on late era M/M (with lusted's latest CAI but no other major mods)
Most of the battles are entirely all infantry affairs. Takes forever to build horse archer units and after over 60 turns I still haven't got anywhere I can build heavy lancers, and a couple to rebuild damaged heavy horse archers. Seljuks don't seem to build any cavalry. Given what these factions used historically maybe we need to make their cavalry cheaper or take fewer turns for the recruitment slots to become available?
