Buy good economy buildings, smaller army, spread out your armies, don't have them all in cities, conquer as many places as possible.

Make sure that the settlements have the best governors available.

Build educationbuildings (acedemies etc) that will in the long run give better attributes to your governors.

By having better governors in settlements you will be able to have smaller garrisons which means your army upkeep is lower so more money coming in.

Establish and keep trade links with as many other factions as possible.

Build roads, markets and ports and upgrade them.
