    Default Becoming a Vassal

Hi, I have been stuck for some time with this, how do you make a faction become a vassal for you (or a protectorate in Rome). I know the diplomat has the option Become a Vassal, but what do you throw in with it? I never what I should offer them with because (obviously) if you just say Become a Vassal, they say no. Thanks in advance!

It only works if they are at war with you and losing badly then it can cost between 2-20thousands
you get trade rights alliance military acces and all their territories counts into your territorie count.

In order to get a vassal you need to offer them tons of money and one or two of their cities you own. It doesn't hurt to be seiging all of their remaining cities either.

Factions will become vassals when they are about to be eliminated. Not necessarily waiting until the last settlement. In a sicily campaign, Hungary was at war with the Byzantines. Hungary (with 5 territories) agreed to become the Byzantine's vassal. Two turns later they were at war again with Hungary allied to Venice. The alliance quickly stripped Byzantium down from 12 territories to 6. Lesson: take the faction out.

wow you guys need SS. i got the scots down to one territory (im norway) and they became vassles FOR NOTHING! I had a big army hovering by their last settlement though. But dont trust them get a fort by its settlement so they dont betray you. AND IT IS SO WORTH IT, it doesnt say it when you go into diplomacy with them but they give you like all their income. My earnings jumped from about 4000 not including building stuff to around 10000! Course the first chance they get the will betray you

making a faction your vassal is usually free if they have only one settlement and you have 1 full stack army and about 20 or 30 single unit armies to cover their land in devastation

I think the income is split in half. Part of the jump is resuming trade relations. Rather than 1/2 the income, why not take it all?

The real vassal for me is towards the end of the campaign since the vassal territories count towrs the victory conditions. A dozen vassal territories can get you real close to the end. Grab a few easy ones and it is time to punch the time card and call it a day.

They only need to stay a vassal for a few turns and they are less likely to change their mind without an ally. (You may need to assassinate a diplomat or two.)

in Britania campaign as Scots Baron's Alliance was down to 2 or 3 settelments (yes yes i know weird Scotland would fight BA but it was a easy way to gobble u British land before actually prosecuting a war with Britain), I made them a vassal for free.

of course it was boring so i reloaded my last save and just owned them so...

    but yeah... it was free.
