Default Load problem with Vista 64

    Hi

I'm doing a complete reinstall to run EB 1.1 with BI 1.6.

I installed vanilla RTW, clicked "no" to install WMW 9.0 since it probably would overwrite WMW 11.0 in Vista, and clicked "no" to install DirectX 9b, since it would probably overwrite my up-to-date DirectX.

When I tried to run RTW it crashed right before the SEGA-logo and video. So I installed BI and the same thing happened.

I strongly suspect it's a codec issue, so I tried to manually install WMW 9.0 on the disc, and I tried a fresh version of the WMW 11.0 codec. Though I tried to run both with admin rights, it didn't seem like they actually were installed.

I have had EB 1.0 up and running on my system with RTW 1.5, so I know it can work. I'm just at a loss about what to do. I've searched the forum without finding any probable answer. Any ideas?

Another thing: If/when I actually get this to work, I guess I just need to patch BI to 1.6 without having to patch RTW first?

Never mind. Adding -nm seemed to do the trick.

Now I'm at the point, where I patched to BI 1.6 and installed EB 1.1. I changed the necessary EB files to play with BI as described in the forum at europabarbarorum.com.

Now I can load the game and start a campaign. But the instant before it's supposed to start it crashes on me again. Ideas/suggestions are welcome!

    thnx/EoE

I do not believe installing an old version of DX will overwrite an new version of DX. Your problems sounds like one that would be fixed with " -nm", but since you already did that...

Try the install validation and the suggestions in that sticky.

Thanks. The validation tool won't work though. It opens the window and asks me to press a key, but doesn't create a text file. Instead I'm asked if I want to create a new one, answer 'yes' and am left with an empty page.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling EB with the same result: A crash just before the campaign starts. With both installs I could play custom battles, so it's an issue with my campaign installation.

My EB 1.1 download was via torrent, if that's useful somehow.

For what it's worth: I completely reinstalled RTW+BI and downloaded a new EB 1.1 version from the .org site. Same result: It crashes as the campaign loads.

Download via torrent means your files shouldn't be corrupt. Reinstall should have bypassed any of the normal problems. It still sounds like a problem that should have been fixed with the " -nm" command. I don't know what to tell you. You could try updating all of your hardware drivers... :hmmm:

Thanks for looking at the CTD problem. I have taken it to the eb.com forum and Bovi took a wack at it as well. There's seemingly no obvious reason. My best guess is that some automatic update of some program (the OS, my anti-virus, whatever) simply collides with EB.

Oh, well, EB 2 is supposed to arrive tomorrow, right?

If bovi can't figure it out...

Sorry you couldn't get it to work.
I don't suppose you're using the nocd version of RTW?
