    Default Elephants gone to the circus???

    Hi people,

    I'm enjoying my Numidian campaign at the moment and have started recruiting armoured elephants in a couple of my African cities. The unit size for the unit is 24 (I'm playing on huge unit size). On the campaign map the unit icon says 24 but when I start a battle with elephants in my army, the unit size of the elephants has dropped to 16. Then after the battle, on the campaign map the elephant unit size is now only 16 (even if I didn't engage them in the battle). This is very annoying as the units are so expensive.

    This doesn't seem to happen with any other unit. I'm not sure if it affects the other elephant units as I have not recruited any.

    Has anyone else experienced this? I will be gratefull if some one could shed some light. Cheers.
    Thank you to all of the RTR Team.

    doesn't it mean 24 men and not elephants. Same thing happens with large units with Indian elephants, it says 18 but they are no more than 5 elephants.

    ^ Thanks but thats not what I mean. When recruited, there are 24 men. There are two men per elephant so this is 12 elephants. However, when a battle begins the unit size (number of men) has dropped to 16 and there are only eight elephants. Even if the elephants finish the battle without casualties, when the campaign map loads up they have only 16 men and 8 elephants instead of the original 24 men/12 elephants. AND to really take the mick, they can now be retrained to replenish the unit number to 24- even though they didn't take casualties. Is this the same for every one else?

    p.s. I tried it out on Custom Battle and the same thing happens. Maybe it was done to reduce the strength of elephant units?
    Thank you to all of the RTR Team.

    What version of platinum are you playing.

    What settings are you using (graphics etc).

    Edited:
    Customise Army;

    Unit Size=24 for Armoured African Elephants

    African Elephants;

    There are 12 elephants & 12 riders = 24

    Towered African Elephants;

    There are 12 elephants & 12 riders & 12 javelin men = 36?? (unless the riders are not counted = 24)

    Armoured African Elephants;

    The number has dropped to 16. There are 7 elephants & 7 riders & 7 javelin men = 21 (unless riders are not counted = 14).
    I presume at the start it needs to be a complete unit and not part at the start of the game.

    Thanks for your time Brusilov. I'm using RTR: PE 1.9 BIexe. Huge unit size but with most graphical settins on low.

    So why do the towered elephants have the same unit size in game as on the customise army screen, wheras the the armoured elephants drop to 16? Both units have a rider and a missle thrower per elephant.

    "I presume at the start it needs to be a complete unit and not part at the start of the game" Sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Could you please explain?

    Unless I`m missing something in the EDU:
    the numidian forest elephant unit has 6 men and 3 elephants
    the numidian tower elephant unit has 6 men and 3 elephants
    the numidian armoured elephant unit has 6 men and two elephants

    All these are for normal size. Question is how the game pairs these numbers on the different settings. If you do the math the ratio of men per beast is not the one in game for the former and the latter.

    But why can I retrain armoured African elephants after a battle if they took no casualties at all? The unit card on the campaign map says 24 before the battle but only 16 after the battle.

    Maybe the armoured elephents are fed a huge feast of meat on the eve of battle? :hmmm:

    That would be awesome.

    "Tomorrow, there will be fire and blood! Let all prepare, and feast well upon meat!" {c.f. Sun Tzu: When the enemy's men are fed with meat and the horses with grain, they are preparing for battle.}
    "Got it, sir! The men will be pleased to hear that."
    "Don't forget the elephants."
    "Wait...what?"
    "You heard me. The elephants too should be feasted upon fine lamb and beef."
    "Um...sir...elephants don't eat meat. They're vegetarians."
    "What? You mean our heavily armoured killing machines aren't meat eaters? That's just not right!"
    "I know, sir, but they're not. They prefer carrots."
    "Carrots? Do they not savor the taste of the splattered foes they trample beneath their mighty feet?"
    "Not really, sir. I think they just kill people because they get annoyed."
    "That's not very bloodthirsty of them."
    "They're not very bloodthirsty, sir."
    "So no meat at all?"
    "No, sir."
    "Well...feed them meat anyway! If they can't digest it, that'll just piss 'em off even more!"
    "Very well, sir."
    "One more thing."
    "Yes, sir?"
    "Put Hanno Baalbek's unit behind the elephants in tomorrow's assault."
    "Certainly, sir, but why the change?"
    "That little bastard's been coming on to my daughter, so if anyone has to walk behind an intestinally distressed elephant, I want it to be him."
