Settlement size

Hi guys

It says in the MTW2 manual that you need a fortress to reach a size of 9000 and then it can be turned to a citadel. However, when playing SS I don't get the option...

Is it different in kingdoms then? Would appreciate any help as I'm having the same problem with towns / cities.

I'm pretty sure it's higher than 9000. I might be wrong but for some reason I think it's 15000. Not sure though.

Castle is 2500, Fortress is 10000, and Citadel is 15000.

It bugs me the AI's castles seem to grow faster than mine, though. I'm usually stuck with castles for a very long while, if I want to stay competitive I need to go take one of the AI's citadels.

Oh and in case I'm wrong, you can always hold your mouse over the population of a settlement and it will tell you the number needed for the next upgrade. Cities have been changed too, I think to 15000/30000 for Large/Huge.

Just pop a high chivalry governor into the settlement you want to grow, and build as many farm upgrades and health bonus buildings you can.

My Generals/Governors are never worth a damn. I'll get 1 Family Member in a line of 100 that isn't un-manly or insane.

It is pretty cool that the line of Starkov in my Kiev Campaign all suffers from hereditary insanity.

Generals hardly ever start out good, just let them govern your cities with low taxes and almost everyone will get good Chivalry and Piety and the saintly trait after some time. Then get those older generals in your castles to get them to grow.

yah, finding high chivalry generals can be difficult. I tend to usually only build one farm upgrade in cities (unless they have like no base farming level) and usually build up the castle farms as high as they go until i hit citadel

I know the problem, in my Kiev Rus game LATE game I'm closing on 100 turns and still my original castle isn't even close to become a "Castle."

I captured the Lithianian one, which was much larger, but even with maxed out farming it stopped just 500 pop short of growing

and I have no chivalrous generals as it didn't fit the whole RUS thing and I can't crusade/jihad to raise chivalry.

I've captured a Byzantine fortress to get some heavier cav, but its' still a long time off getting my Cossack gunners. Meanwhile I have 2 huge cities (Kiev and Constantinopolis) so now problems there.
