Default Trouble getting a 2nd install (not copy/paste method)

Hey all, I've been lurking for awhile (playing some of the awesome mods like RTR, Europa Barborum, IBFD, RTJ etc) and decided to join up but first I have a problem that I need resolved. I understand normal method of getting a 2nd install of RTW (install a clean version and copy/paste the folder, then mod the copy) however, I recently had to delete my clean install for HD space. I still have two modded games sitting on my drive so when I try to do a clean install of RTW it sees that the game is already installed and will only let me 'play' it. I've tried exploring the CD and manually loading up the RTW set-up / installer program but it assumes that I only want to uninstall it.

Obviously I can't copy a modded game and return it to its original state and copy/paste it so I was wondering if anybody knew how to force RTW to install another clean copy of itself? I was going to try locking up my modded folders in a .rar but it looked like it was going to take an hour + and if it didn't work.... argh, anyways any help offered would be a tremendous boon. Thanks.

First of all welcome to the forum! Hopefully, we can get you up an running again soon.

When you deleted the game I presume you did that and not uninstall it? What's happened is that the Windows Registry still thinks it's installed and won't let you install again.

The post that is usually referred to to completely remove all traces is the following; http://rtw.heavengames.com/cgi-bin/f...&f=3,3340,,all

I've never used it so I don't know if it works.

It would be possible, I think, to edit the registry to point it in the direction of one of your mods.

There is some information in the following post under the heading 'how to install 1.2 manually' that should point you in the right direction; http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showp...65&postcount=1

Hey, thanks for your welcome and your reply . I had a look at those links (and my registry) but I don't think that I can apply those solutions. The first seems to be for people that have traces of RTW still in their registries and are thus having trouble installing a new copy, however I think that in my case the RTW installer considers my RTR and EB modded folders to be RTW and because of that won't allow a fresh install. I'm worried that if I remove the "Creative Assembly" entry that I will kill or cripple RTR and EB (my mod folders).

As for the second solution, it tells me how to directly install the patch but I'm afraid that I'm not technically competent enough to translate that method into forcing an entire install of RTW off of the discs .

If you kept a good unmodded, original copy of the RTW folder on your harddrive you can click edit/ copy to folder, click Activision or Creative Assembly depending on your version, click copy and you have another copy for another mod, for you to mod, or whatever your heart desires.

Istallers for a long time have been written not to allow it to install more than one copy of a program per computer.
