Need help renaming a faction

Hey all!

I need some help renaming the Byzantine Empire to Eastern Roman Empire, and when I hold the mouse over a city I want it to say "Roman City"

Would this be difficult to do?

it should be pretty easy go into expanded.txt in the text folder and everything you need is there but don't changed the bracketed names just the ones outside the brackets

I got it to say roman city, roman navy etc., but the faction name is still the Byzantine Empire, I want it to be the Eastern Roman Empire

search the file for

{BYZANTIUM}The Byzantine Empire

and change it to

{BYZANTIUM}The Eastern Roman Empire

you may want to change anything that says byzantium in brackets to fit the ERE name so you'll have Roman spy or assassin army etc. but as I said before don't actually change whats in the brackets just beside them

Help, there is no expanded.txt in the text folder, only expanded.txt.strings

You need alpaca's strings bin converter. Search the forums for the link or take a look in the downloads section. It should be easy to find.
When you have converted the strings.bin file to a .txt file, edit the .txt file. After you're done, delete the strings.bin file. The game will automatically create a new .strings.bin file from your .txt file when you run the game.

Now I only need to get a skinpack for my ERE and make it work with retrofit and GUAM (I know I must edit the battle_models.db, but I dont know how)

Edit: I meant that I must edit the battle_models.db to make one of the existing skinpacks work with retrofit.

well if your not adding new units recolouring them should not require editing the battle_model.db because your not creating new skins for the units and just recolouring the old ones

Well, problem is I dont have the skill or program to reskin them, actually the original purple would look better then.

I never used GIMP(which is free) but I think it has mostly the same functions as photoshop and there is a option where can change the colour and you just select the purple and slide a few bars around and then the purple is suddenly red I gave it a try and only took me a few hours to recolour everything that Byzantium has

well skinning work isn't really my area of expertise you can try the tutorials section if you want to learn what to do there
