The French

I am playing as the Apachean Tribes and successfully destroyed the French, then the next turn I am warned that more of them have arrived. No sign of them for a few turns and then wham bam, they besiege Alibamu and I lose. Then they disappear and the village they took it now Rebel controlled, what is going on?

To be honest I could not tell you where they landed. However they have now disappeared into the forest and I have scouts looking for them. Rebels now control the village, so they will be sorted. The French Faction banner has now disappeared, so I guess that AI may have decided to attack them with some rebels. Its great to know that I will be fighting them indefinately, not! I am now at War with the Aztecs with my ally, the Chichimec. Infact everybody is at war with the Aztecs, including the Mayans, Tarascans and Spanish

just do toggle_fow to track them down and yeah, the aztecs are very hated in this campaign.

Without appearing dim, what buttons do i press or where do I input this command?
The French appear to re-incarnate themselves, do the other Europeans, do the same?

pres the ` button (left of the 1) and type toggle_fow (press enter)

Both the French and the English get some nine stacks. The French land in Florida and the English in Honduras. The Spanish start with two regions but get some reinforcements (expeditions).

honduras is in central america, south of mexico.

well the english do land at the south-eastern-most part of the map, at least initially, then they land at the eastern part of maya lands, and they keep landing there, they must get close to 10+ stacks overall, though only 3-4 initially... its a pity that when they came my spanish dragoons were there to meet them

The French turned up for me just as i'd conquered all the rebel provinces in the USA (United States of Apacheans in this case) I think about turn 25 (just had a look at rankings of their military) and the english turn up maybe 10-15 later. French are bastards to fight with apache first few battles, but then you get mounted Thunder Braves (natives on fast horses with long range guns) and ooohhhh baby, unstoppable now! I have 6 armies of 1 general who hides in some forests right at the back, then 19 thunder brave units who encircle and mow down Frenchies, great fun

To the best of my knowledge you cannot play as the French or English. They certainly arrive in waves and in significant numbers. I defeated the French around by turn 60 and they never showed their faces again. The Mayans finsied off the English, so cannot comment on them.
