The Norwegian king has to die. Either you kill him in battle, assassinate him or you let him die of old age.
I took all the necessary cities and then attacked his castle. I killed the king during battle and then retreated. Although I lost the battle I did get the union (and the Norwegian units that were still alive and the faction heir).
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.
Tosa will be missed.
So you mean i need to restrat the campaign and kill norwegian king but the norwegian faction must still alive..?
Correct, but you must also controll all the scandinavian provinces, including Ĺbo (except the norwegian).
...and install the patch that fixes the issue of Kalmar Union. In the original game it wasn´t possible to get the event.

The sequence of events regarding the Kalmar Union is this: Take a number of key settlements across Scandinavia. Once you have done this you will get a scroll that says something to the effect that the only thing standing between you and total control of Scandinavia is the King of Norway, so either wait for him to die or... ahem... 'arrange' his timely demise, as I prefer to. Then, if you select to create the Kalmar Union, every single Norwegian settlement, army, and general will become part of your Danish empire. Plus you get this leet yellow banner in replacement of the drab old one.

This. You should within a few turns (can't remember, but its not that long), get a message saying about taking key settlements. Hold those and you'll get the Norweigen King mission.
You'll need to patch / mod Kingdoms in order to get Norway's units though. Otherwise it only converts Norweigen settlements and changes your name / colour scheme.

Yeah I managed to kill the King by assassination, the new banners aren't really amazing its just red and yellow. I just wish that you can be Norway, but there not playable
the yellow banner is kind of an eyesore at the beginning, and i find it very difficult to determine how many troops are in each stack with the yellow scheme
but color scheme is no true measure of the power of a faction. i suggest you load to a spot before norway was destroyed (if possible) and become the kalmar union, for the rewards are enormous

the banner is better, definently brighter too, and with a little modding you also get to recruit the norwegian units
quite frankly, Kalmar Union faction is not something you should lose your sleep over. nothing is different, besides the ugly new color and some two-hander unit that has a questionable usefulness anyway.
Kalmar Union is a cool addition to the game, but more like an easter egg as opposed to something really worthwhile.
Thank god that Gustav Saved us from that bloody union![]()
If only the AI Norway would try to take some of the rebel settlements in Sweden... then getting all of those would be worth killing the King for. But they typically stay to themselves with those two in Norway itself.

So they can't even make more peasants? what about getting more kids?

I dont think thats a bug. Norway isnt a playable faction and is not supposed to be a big player in the campaign but merely part of the 'Kalmar Quest' for a human Denmark player. It wasnt 'fixed' in 1.5 when some other issues were. Such as being able to recruit Norwegian units for Denmark at all after the union.
edit: By the way, playing Norway is actually feasible for a human because you can still recruit mercenaries and thus take over the whole map. Most challenging faction of the Teutonic campaign for sure.

well, i consider it bugged because it doesnt offer denmark a real challenge in the quest for the kalmar union. once you defeat a large portion of their army, they can never recover from anything. once they gather too many settlements, their forces are spread too thin and they are easily conquered

So then you can wipe out HRE.

no and yes respectively
they function like any other faction, only their units are not scripted into the building trees, thus making them stuck with what they have
