    Icon7 Multiplayer question

    Is it possible to play a multiplayer game in Medieval 2? Like kind of like campaign.. ?

    It gets kind of old just playing battles...

    I know about online hotseat mode, but are you able to ACTUALLY play the battles? Or is it just Auto resolve?

    You can choose switch between auto resolve, and battle. It is in the settings, you have to modify the config file, and search for the hotseat section. You can find it in the root directory of Stainless_Steel_6, and the file is called "Stainless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg"

    You can't actually play against him in the campaign, you can only fight his armies on your turn which would be AI controlled.

    ah ok, so is there a map that is used for multiplayer? And when I play my foe I will play vs, but it will be controlled by ai?

    the map is the same as the single player campaign map, and yes you will fight the AI when you enter a battle, BUT you can not play defensive battles they autoresolves automatically.

    I disagree: you can play defensive battles, I do it - as I do it in Broken Crescent multiplayer, and as I did it in SS 4.1

    I fixed it this way:

    The file Satinless_Steel_Kingdoms.cfg sounds like this:

    [multiplayer]
    ## comment/uncomment following line to disable/enable hotseat campaign
    # playable = true
    ## faction mask for setting default starting factions in hotseat campaign
    # factions = 1 # = england, 2 = france, 4 = hre, 3 = england+france, etc

    [hotseat]
    ## disable start turn scroll in hotseat campaign
    # scroll = false
    ## disable forced separate human faction turns (including diplomacy) in hotseat campaign
    # turns = false
    ## enable cheat console in hotseat campaign.
    # disable_console = false
    ## specify password for administrator access to the dev console when console disabled. Change 'password' to a suitable password
    # admin_password = password
    ## enable camera updates during ai turn in hotseat campaign
    # update_ai_camera = true
    ## enable voting in papal elections in hotseat campaign (only first valid human faction votes)
    # disable_papal_elections = false
    ## disable forced autoresolve all battles in hotseat campaign
    # autoresolve_battles = false
    ## disable diplomacy validation for incoming propositions
    # validate_diplomacy = false
    ## disable forced relevant hotseat options to be saved with game.
    # save_prefs = false
    ## autosave hotseat game at start of players turn
    # autosave = true
    ## save config file in save dir containing information about next players turn
    # save_config = true
    ## close medieval II directly after a hotseat autosave
    # close_after_save = true
    ## sub directory name for hotseat save games
    # gamename = hotseat_gamename
    ## ensure game data files used in previous save match current campaign data files.
    # validate_data = true
    ## prevent game to load if savegame or data validations fail
    # allow_validation_failures = false

    so, uncomment the lines this way:

    [multiplayer]
    comment/uncomment following line to disable/enable hotseat campaign
    playable = true
    faction mask for setting default starting factions in hotseat campaign
    factions = 1 = england, 2 = france, 4 = hre, 3 = england+france, etc

    [hotseat]
    disable start turn scroll in hotseat campaign
    scroll = true
    disable forced separate human faction turns (including diplomacy) in hotseat campaign
    turns = false (if you want to play defensive battles)
    enable cheat console in hotseat campaign.
    disable_console = true
    specify password for administrator access to the dev console when console disabled. Change 'password' to a suitable password
    admin_password = password
    enable camera updates during ai turn in hotseat campaign
    update_ai_camera = true
    enable voting in papal elections in hotseat campaign (only first valid human faction votes)
    disable_papal_elections = false
    disable forced autoresolve all battles in hotseat campaign
    autoresolve_battles = false
    disable diplomacy validation for incoming propositions
    validate_diplomacy = false
    disable forced relevant hotseat options to be saved with game.
    save_prefs = true
    autosave hotseat game at start of players turn
    autosave = true
    save config file in save dir containing information about next players turn
    save_config = true
    close medieval II directly after a hotseat autosave
    close_after_save = false
    sub directory name for hotseat save games
    gamename = hotseat_gamename
    ensure game data files used in previous save match current campaign data files.
    validate_data = true
    prevent game to load if savegame or data validations fail
    allow_validation_failures = false

    Then switch the file to "red only". The problem it's solved: during the AI turns, if AI attacks you, the game stops and you can play the battle.

    Maybe this is useless, anyway...

    Just a heads up to people using this one. I had several save-game problems, where the game would not load the next players turn after loading the saved game. After hours of restarted games, I finally came up with a solution, witch is basicly to use the standard hotseat fix for the vanilla MTW2. So I would recomend for people to be on the safe side, to add these lines instead:

    [multiplayer]
    playable = true

    [hotseat]
    turns = false
    scroll = false
    autoresolve_battles = false
    disable_console = true
    disable_papal_elections = true
    save_prefs = true
    update_ai_camera = true
    validate_diplomacy = true

    Man have i been looking for this fix, thanks. I ll try it right away.

    Ok, I tried it on stainless steel 6.1, and it did nothing.

    I started the game as venice and genoa, i sieged bologna with only one archer group as venice, and as genoa i sieged milan with just one group of horsemen.

    When the turn was over for all factions, the archer group had vanished and my horsemen were back in genoa.

    Works now, I'm a deuche.
    ______________

    Ok, I made the first changes to the stainless steel .cfg file. The defence system started working nicely on hotseat.

    Now me and my friend were trying to play hotseat, so that he's at home, and I'm at my place, and we were emailing save games to each other.

    After a while of errors during turns, we realized the load game error occurred with our own save games too.

    I can "End Turn" on my pc, which takes the turn to the next guy, then I save the game, mail it to my friend.

    He loads it up and wham, as soon as you change the turn, the game sort of freezes. The waters still running and the "Escape" button opens up the options but the turn wont change.

    Even if I load up my own game later on it doesn't seem to work.

    So do I have to use what the second dude told me to?

    And if I do that, will the defence system screw itself over again so we wont be able to defend?
    __

    Ok, long post but here I go again...

    NOW, that I made these changes:

    [multiplayer]
    playable = true

    [hotseat]
    turns = false
    scroll = false
    autoresolve_battles = false
    disable_console = true
    disable_papal_elections = true
    save_prefs = true
    update_ai_camera = true
    validate_diplomacy = true

    It works fine for me. But my friend, not so well.

    He started as venice,

    made his moves,

    "End Turn"ed,

    saved the game,

    e-mailed the .sav to me.

    In turn, I made my moves,

    "End Turn"ed,

    Mailed it back to him.

    Heres the NEW problem. The game wont load his save.

    I found a solution somewhere to remove the user accound control thingy (which I told him to turn off ages ago but hes a booming moron so here we are...).

    He turned it off, didn't help. He reinstalled stainless steel, didn't help. He finally, after telling me there is no AppData folder on his pc found the secret hidden folder, and i told him to delete everything in the VirtualStore folder, as mine was empty.

    Now were wondering, does he have to install the whole medieval 2 again, cos the stainless steel reinstallation didn't help at all, or should he just install Vista once more?

    Or what else could be causing this? It really seems like the game changes when I save it in a way it can't be played on his PC no more.

    We both installed Stainless Steel 6.0 part 1, then part 2, then the 6.1 patch, then the Permanent Stone Forts, and a Jerusalem faction thing.

    So I could take his save game and play it, but when I sent it back to him, he couldn't.

    What's the deal?
