Mongol is awesome. It's just come out in the UK. The director is Russian. Genghis is played by Tadanobu Asano, a Japanese indie actor (who is great in number of samurai flicks). The well known Chinese actor Honglei Sun plays Jamuqa. Both are excellent.
Apparently this is the first in a triology.

Sergei Bodrov senior did a great job with Mongol. Combined with Con Iggledun's "Gengis" it's great inspiration for some BC action.

About the movie:
Because of the Gengis Han anniversary there were at least 3 new epic movies about him issued 2006-2008. I have seen all three several months ago. All is IMHO of course, but:
1. Sergei Bodrov's "Mongol" - is bad. Could be watched once and forgotten. Do not expect much so that you do not get disappointed. Highlights give you a much better look than it actually is. Without watching Chinese version (see below) you do not always follow what is happening and why.
2. Mongolian-Japanese (what cossacks369 is talking about) movie: same thing but at least the nature feels genuine Mongolian. Dah!

3. Chinese 30-part long epic (22.5 hours) of 2006: The best, hands down. Very comprehensive and detailed story about Timujin. Cavalry tactics is real. The only drawback of the movie is complete luck of any cavalry archer involvement in battles.

Yes, that film is now a cult classic. It is bad. Genghis with a John Wayne accent and looks is not too swift. Also, the film was made in an area that had nuclear fallout debris from A-bomb testing in WWII etc., and John Wayne and many of the others making the film were affected by that radioactive fallout debris over the years of their life. The film was a dud all the way around. A bit funny it was actually.

nice movies, mongol by bodrov is good movie, I liked it, but it seem like 1st part of the whole one, as it majorly concentrates on the earlier part of his life. So I wonder if bodrov is gonna make a second movie?
