Relying solely on scripted legions

Has anyone tried to play through the Bellum Gallica and Bellum Civille relying solely on the scripted legions given to Caesar by the senate? Meaning...not recruiting extra legions in italy. I was just playing the game now and I thought, man, that would be extreme hell on earth to accomplish. But it sounds like fun!

I got nothing against the recruitable legions, but just wondering if it's possible to make it through. I can't wait to try it.

You can't train your own legions or cohors during the Bellum Gallicum. Just auxilia or mercenaries.
But you can train them during the Bellum Civile.

We ended up with this system because we wanted to represent the lack of manpower that Caesar faced during the Bellum Gallicum and the sudden change in his situation when he crossed the Rubicon and started conquering more territories.

I understand. I usually combine the survivors of a cohort with others. I like how the ability to recruit your own legions becomes available once italy is taken. I didn't mean the thread to be a solid suggestion for the campaign.

I'm just saying as a hypothetical, wouldn't it be insanely nuts to try to make it through the whole game with only the scripted legions? Wondering if anyone has tried it. I'm trying it now and I don't think I'll make it past the battles in greece.
