Mine is the War of Wrath it's so awesome I read about a human who killed 70 trolls by himself.

Ah yes, Húrin. My favorite character from Tolkiens World. He didn't fought in the War of Wrath though. He fought in the period which is my all time favorite: the period from Fingolfin's death to Húrin's death. The most dramatic period in the whole history of Beleriand. It includes my favorite chapter: Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
It looks bad in the newspapers and upsets civilians at their breakfast...
Hurin was a beast and the Battle of Unumbered Tears was awesome! Actually its been a while since I read the Silmarillion, so maybe im confused if thats not the right battle... But yeah my favorite timeframe is either the War of The Ring, or the early Third Age from Isildur's death to the last king of Gondor when he got beat by the Witch-King.
"Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great compassion. Your delight is not in horses, nor Your pleasure in warriors strength..."
So you are familar with the old ways which most the other's here don't care to read about.
I like the Lord of the Ring's, mainly because of their depth of detail and linear storyline. I also love the Silmarillion but... sometimes when i read it I wonder if im reading an encyclopedia or a book since the story has no definite, solid direction, it seems to skip around to different places and stories, but i still love it.![]()
Another of the Old ways this is fantastic.
Yes, Silmarillion is in fact one of the best, if no the best, books I ever read. I read it several times and I get lost in it's tales every time![]()

Yes it is the greatest tale ever told.
Hey let's not go too far.
I love the Akkalabeth, but if I was to choose a military period, Gondor's wars/plagues and struggles for ascension etc. They're pretty sweet.
Battle of the Gladden Fields = Gondor screwed over by orcs.
The First Age is only good in the Narn i Chin Hurin. Go Turin!
Third Age: Total War! (!!!!)
The First Age is awesome.
I challenge thee! The First Age is disjointed, ill documented and full of spoilers!
Third Age: Total War! (!!!!)
I'll right you're on.
I loved that period from when noldor arrived to Beleriand to Fingolfin's dead. But I also loved later dramatic times and stories of First Age. At the end of all Silmarillion is best book to me because it tells about those days when elves were still very strong.![]()
not in war of wrath
it was Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the battle of the unnumbered tears, Hurin was the man and the 70 trolls was the bodyguards of Gothmog-the Balrog Lord

I "love" the First Age above all other periods
Glorfindel, the Lord of the House of the Golden Flower
...Glorfindel was tall and straight, his hair was of shining gold, his face fair and young and fearless and full of joy, his eyes were bright and keen, and his voice like music, on his brow sat wisdom, and in his hand was strength...
... the Elven-wise, lords of the Eldar from beyond the furthest seas. They do not fear the Ringwraiths, for those who have dwelt in the Blessed Realm live at once in both worlds, and against both the Seen and the Unseen they have great power...
Btw, when we speak about Silmarillion here, I get sometimes pissed in these forums when here comes guys who says "I know all about Tolkien's literature" and most of them haven't red more than LotR if even it.![]()
Last of all Hurin stood alone. Then he cast aside his shield, and wielded an axe two-handed; and it is sung that the axe smoked in the black blood of the troll-guard of Gothmog until it withered, and each time that he slew Hurin cried 'Aure entuluva! Day shall come again!' Seventy times he uttered that cry; but they took him at last alive...
