Default Role playing a single character

Has anybody thought or tried simply role playing one character? I'm considering doing this in my next campaign to make things MUCH more difficult and therefore more fun (perhaps). What I mean by this is you choose one character and basically act as though you are him. You only fight the battles he is present in (Autocalc all the others in which he isn't) and maybe even go so far as to putting all your towns under AI control. Maybe when you become king, if you aren't already then you can start building what you want. I don't really know exactly how I'd do it yet, but I figure it would make things much more challenging and therefore things would be more interesting. Any ideas on how to role play like this? Also, if you have/are going to updates sort of like AARs would be nice.

Try only playing battles with family members and generals in command and leave captains with auto resolve.
If you're going to play with only one character what will you do when he dies ? lol
Reap the promised end to the struggle. Reap every point on our linear path.
Reap the smiles in time we borrow, every harvest relies on the last.
Reap the promising song of the sparrow, that they learned from the birth of sea.
Silenced by the threnody of the crows. Reap the fallen fruit of the dogwood tree.
But I witnessed in all this silence one soul's definition of beauty. and a backlit smile so temporary.
A facade so rich with evil history. Cast in direct opposition set to overwhelm this moment to shine and sleep.
came out on top of what was borrowed, and found all that beauty to be still...

Naturally I'll choose another character to play as....most likely one of his sons. I thought about only fighting family member battles, but that would still be to easy. I usually have a family member in charge of my armies all the time anyways....

I thought you'd just kill yourself
On the other hand, the AI can manage your cities but not your armies, you'll still have to move them around, so the strict one character thing, even if ineresting, is not really feasable I'm afraid... Except maybe with a very small country for wich you create a limitation of 1 single army. Maybe RPing only one FAMILLY can cut it :hmmm: .

Nah, I'd still move the other armies around etc....Just not in the sole interests of my character. I'd not only have to move/build units, but I would prefer to as the AI sucks at this. That may be a bit of an advantage against the AI, but I guarantee this way of playing is far more difficult than allowing yourself to fight battles with more than one character.

If you can become a horde like in BI then start a new campaign using any faction you prefer, if you want to have royal guards with your solo character cheat your way to create an Elite army, leave your cities to rebel and once you become a horde choose a character and give him the best units you have to create an army and then keep moving around sacking settlements, fighting armies and recruiting mercenaries.Fun isn't it

yes I do this alot of time, but he must be nominated to the throne (faction heir),I put the best armies I have under his disposal and I keep having victory after victory, and if he has a son I make him follows the foot step of his father, thus I have a powerful secondary dynasty

I'm thinking of allowing myself to fight with 1 character on every front I have. This means North, West, East, and South will be my 4 fronts. If I am at war on all of them, then I will allow myself to play with 4 characters (4 armies). Even if there are 2 factions at war with me on one front I will still only be allowed 1 character (1 army). I'm doing this, because I autocalced a few battles that I absolutely thought I should have won and this is my compromise.

I think the question would be if it is possible at all to make a scripted campaign where you have to accomplish military missions rather than managing an empire. Something like the tutorial of rome total war where the senate would give you missions.

In Stainless Steel, I tend to skirmish with Europeans but expand into the holy land and north Africa with Sicily, so I try and play in the spirit of the early crusaders - brutally violent, ignorant, treacherous, superstitious, cannibalistic butchers of men women and children of any creed - in short, a European nobleman

It's great fun and adds some difficulty so I recommend it, particularly with the Byg's supply line system. I dearly hope supply line traits are added to BC, it's great to push on into hostile territory when it's stupid to do so and enrage powerful local factions by seiging any settlements regardless of local politics. There's a chance you'll be surrounded and slaughtered of course.
