    Icon4 how to make a normal.texture?

    i am in a problem now after converting and reconverting unit to use the texture coordinate editor or TCE in milkshape i found a problem when adding a new normal.texture i don´t find the way to do it , i can´t use another one because i am making a totally different texture structure so here is my question how do i make a normal.texture with gimp dds editor?
    i already have the diff.texture, is for attachmentsets.
    any suggestions?

    ok never mine i figure it out already!!
    It seems to work with gimp but i am not so sure make a tuto of it , maybe if people start testing we can work it out! any one interested just pm me i´ll send ya the link to the plug in and the way i do it but still to be tested.!! cheers
    [url]http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidius/normalmap/[url] plug in note : they are 5 files to donwload, and the manual is no good , i spend an awefull amount of time trying to fix it, install everything in the gimp 2.4 folder every one in its respective folder, over writte if prompted .

    the way i test it is the following:
    1- open dds skin , go to layer/transparentcy/color alpha and click ok
    2-filter/map/map to object/map to plane , transparent background hit ok
    3-filter/map/normalmap/ and change the following
    a-filter set in soble 3x3
    b-scale set 2,00000
    c-Alpha channels :inverse height or heigh still to be tested
    d- on the right side under option click box "wrap"
    hit ok , save copy as normal.dds convert with dds to texture converter, set the copy texture into the respective place and test it .
    This one is with the vanilla normal texture
    and these one is with the proper normal texture

    Apparently no one is interested , never mine i´ll post it any ways.
    The normal texture is something like a thin layer of luminosity but it can be done easily, the easiest way is by opening a normal.texture from a similar unit and delete everything, and save it as your unit name.norm.dds .
    the other way is a little more complexe but it has really good results.
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read: 

    1. Open the texture dds with gimp "remember you need the normal plug in"
    2. Click filter menu, scroll own to map , then to normal map.
    3. Now the normalmap window is open , on the right there is Filter set it up in sobel 3x3.
    In Minimun Z : 0.15
    Scale:2.00000
    Height source: Alpha
    Alpha channel: inverse height
    in option tab click on " wrap "
    4 . click ok and save the file as norm.dds
    That´s it.

    if I do the same as you i get nothing. My whole normal map is just empty.
    You sure that's al you do in gimp.

    I've played with the normal map settings in photoshop and i'm still trying to find the one i like the most. my gloss on my chainmail is a little too much for my taste. Makes it look like plate armor.

    is very good but too shiny armour for my taste, it does not look so real, but any ways these thread was made for those who can´t afford the photoshop, is for gimp! with the plug in.

    I`m very interested very good work both!!!!!!!!

    well in milkshape i now how to add textures but i don`t now how to create my own. and how do i manipulate figures example new shields forms.

    i don`t now if the picts loked like that but you now how to work with textures.

    Well daxter a shield is not a figure is an attachment, to do that you need a mesh converter where you are able to manipulate the whole units figures and attachments.

    yeah , because i haven´t figured out how to set alpha channel is gimp, so it´s an easy way to add normal map,
    Nakharar yes in deed , but the milkshape is not the best modeling tool so that is why the line in the middle!! with the line is much worse!!

    Nice could you do those for my mod??? Its good its inbetween those time consuming great models of Riusuchi and normal models make a tutorial

    This is in Gymp
    Flatten image, then

    1- open dds skin , go to layer/transparentcy/color alpha and click ok

    3-filter/map/normalmap/ and change the following

    a-filter set in soble 3x3
    b-scale set 2,00000
    c-Alpha channels :height
    d- on the right side under option click box "wrap"

    In some occasions you have to delete by hand the textures on the face and clothes because it mainly works on the metals part.
    And another request can you move this thread to the tutorial section?
